    New guy with a ?

Hi people, this is my first post on this board and wanted to start off by saying hi. I've been working out for the last 2 years and have had significant increases in strength and size. At the same time, I believe I can definitely add more mass to my frame and I was told that to do so, I needed to increase the weight I lift. On the flat bench I usually work with around 150lbs(yes, I know I am weak compared to all of you, lol) with the 4 sets- 8 reps routine. The guy who I asked said that I need to push my body more and I need to feel sore after each workout from here on out to gain mass. He told me that all I'm doing right now is ust continually toning my body and I shouldn't expect to get anymore tone with my current routine. I wanted to know whether that sounded right to you guys? I just figured you had to eat better and rest more to get more mass.
    Thanks alot,
    Sam

your friend is right, you need to lift big to get big. you gain muscle by creating little rips in its tissue, you do that by working so hard your muscle barely holds itself together. go to fatigue (until you can't lift it at all no matter how friggin hard you try) with about the second heaviest thing you can lift, and each workout try and do an extra rep for each set, and go from 4 sets down to 3. don't just do it with bench press, do it for everything. i'm saying all this assuming you want to get as huge as possible.

Lifting heavier weights is a sure way to gain size. Of course the difference between having sore muscles from lifting and sore muscles from an injury is a fine line. I made the stupid mistake of jumping up the weights at too great an interval and caused a tear in the long head of the biceps brachii. Even after 3 months I still can't get back to my original weight on chest exercises and find it difficult to do bench or flyes. Since you've been lifting for 2 years, I'm sure your already aware of the difference so I don't need to preach.

I have noticed though, that my body has had the biggest increases while using the pyramid scheme. You may want to try that as well.

    Good luck and welcome.

    Welcome.

Remember if you don't eat good you're not gonna grow good.

Like Trizz said...post your workout AND what you normally eat in a day.

    Welcome
Like Fade said if you don`t eat your not going to grow, you can increase the reps or poundage each workout but without calories you won`t get bigger.

Thanks guys for all the insight. My work out week basically consists of Back/Tri's on Monday, Bi's/chest on Tuesday, Wednesday off, Thursday is shoulder day, and Friday is just an overall tune-up. I do exercises such as bench press, flyes, all sorts of tri pull downs, and a variation of bicep exercises such as curls, preacher curls, seated barbell curl, and other things. DOes that sound conducive to gaining mass?
