    Good posture while sitting

I find it really comfy to slouch but i doubt it's doing wonders for my back.
Whats the best position to sit in for a healthy spine??

Back straight, feet at a 45 degree angle, hands on knees.

Right now at the computer... creep your ass forward so that just the smallest chunk of your ass is on the front of the chair. Make sure your elbows are off the desk.

According to Stuart McGill's book, "Low Back Disorders", there is no proper way to sit. Actually, the best way to sit is to frequently change positions. McGill notes that it takes about 20min. for tissue creep to affect the spine. So frequently shifting positions would combat the plastic change the spine may go through if you were to sit in one single position. In addition, the pictures of people sitting at a desk completely straight and tall are incredibly difficult positions to maintain as the metabolic cost on the muscles to hold that position is high, creating fatigue and compensation. So move around! Even stand up every 15min. and do a little stretching.

Also, there is research which shoes that posture has no affect on whether you will be pathological or not. I have to dig that one up though.

I tell my office clients to try and take frequent breaks, even for just a couple of seconds to stand up tall and squeeze the shoulder blades back together. I have them set their microsoft outlook to off every 15min. as a reminder to stand up and all correct their posture.

Here are some other tips from Dr. Liebenson.
