    10 x 3 front squats

With my good luck No Bull shirt on, I tried out a 10 X 3 front squat day. Having not done this rep scheme before (popular with coaches such as Chad Waterbury and others) on this particular exercise, I didn't use the recommended 80-85% 1RM, but probably more like 70% having not done it with this exercise before. I have to admit, rest periods after about set 6 started to get longer and form started to suffer on later sets, so finding the right weight is essential for such a rep scheme. I'm getting old...

Looks OK but appeared to have a little too much forward lean. Drop the weight a bit to keep proper upright form.

I'm with the doc on this. I think a different grip that brought the bar back and the elbows up more would help as well.

Thats how I do them, resting on my delts with my arms crossed and my hands just resting on the bar. As long as I keep my elbows level with or slightly above the bar, it doesnt move.

Good job! I never really try heavy fronts, typically suppliment back squats with them and stick to stuff I can get for at least 6 reps.

The forward lean did look to get worse as sets progressed. But you did not dump so good going. I do prfer to use some collars fror fronts though due to the more precarious balance. One side tilt and your done for.

Benefit of having a training partner 6 inches from you at all times.

The cage will prevent any real disasters with pins set at proper hight. Never liked collars personally and tilting not an issue. If I lose it, it would be forward, not left or right. Without the cage, and or spotter, might use collars.

I understand, it does look as if you do some training or offer tips. Do you emphasize safety, ie collars, when giving advice?

    Just curious.

Depends on the audience/person, the exercise in question, etc, etc. An interesting collar story: friend of mine found is father dead in their basement years ago. Seems he was training alone, was doing decline bench, had collars on. If you get stuck under a heavy decline bench alone and have collars on, how are you going to get out from under that? You aint, and his father found out the hard way... They were never clear if he had a heart attack struggling to get it off or just chocked to death as they didn't do an autopsy according to him....Obviously, that does not mean people should avoid collars, it's just an extreme example of the fact there is a time and a place for everything, like belts, collars, etc,

20 plus years of training, in a cage, using weight well below max, we don't need no stinkin' collars.

    Yes, 10 X 3. It's a classic Waterbury program.

Training alone is risky period. I do it at home but I have a full cage and spot bars.

As far as the collars question goes, I find it a bit of a liability to advocate collar free lifting to a beginner.

I don't recall doing that, but truth be told, I have trained hundreds of people without any use of collars and have yet to see an accident/injury due to the lack of collars yet. The only collar related issues I have seen were actually more experienced lifters, and or bad spotters, but that's another story.

Well then the experience you've had is exceptional. I too have never witnessed any accidents due to collar use/misuse but I can see it happening in my mind. Maybe I need better drugs

I use them when I feel the situation requires but like you said earlier, in a cage not so much.

BTW, there's always the alternative grip for the front squat for those who don't like the more traditional grip(s) as i am using in the vid:
