Getting in shape
Okay so I am a 21 year old male who is 5'8" and about 155lbs. I am not in bad shape but could lose a little weight around the center and really need to firm up. One of my biggest problems is I have exercised induced asthma so I can't do cardio for a really long time. It sucks cause I have bad stamina to begin with. It is kind of circular reasoning because my lack of stamina is preventing me from working on my lack of stamina. I don't have a lot of time or access to weights, machines, etc. I am trying to figure out what the best things to do would be. I bought the Golds Gym Long Resistance Band kit and DVD. It is a 30 minute DVD and I hurt at the end of it. It has some interval cardio in there as well. I have heard a lot of good things about how effective push-ups are and I don't need to bulk up as much as get tone and work on my endurance and lose my small gut. Would it be sufficient to do the hundred push up plan 3 times a week and on each one of those days do 30 minutes of the resistance bands? Should I add other stuff in there? Will the bands work well for me? I also got the Iron Gym pull up bar. Here are my questions:
1) With everything I threw out there, does it look sufficient? 2) Am I going to need more cardio than the interval cardio in the DVD? 3) Is there a good plan for the pull up bar? 4) After I do the routine with the push-ups, I am nearly dead. I'm not sure after doing that and the DVD if I will be able to do any pull ups. How do I overcome this? With this get better in a few weeks? It seems like the pushup plan is meant to push you to the extreme each time and when I finish it, I can't even do one till the next round. 5) How long would it be before I see any results? 6) Is 3 times a week enough? Is there anything I could be doing on the days off? Thanks for everyone's help in advance! |

First and foremost, welcome to the forum.
Secondly, in the time it takes to do all the pushups and pullups as well as watch a 30min dvd, you cant spend that time in the gym? |

It is more travel time and money. I have heard from a lot of people that great results can be achieved at home and I see no reason they can't. The gym also has more variables and requires more knowledge and set planning (which machine do I use, how many sets, reps, etc.) where at home I can follow a set DVD and plan.

If you can't get to a gym right now (and honestly, it will be the best money you ever spend) you should at least invest in better equipment for home. At least a set of adjustable dumbells and some weights.
