Hey Gaz, Farmers Walk...

...started incorporating these as we talked about previously and these suckers are the bomb! Yesterday I did 3 sets with 100 lb. dumbbells, across the gym and back, total of about 40 yards. I thought my forearms were going to explode! In addition, my grip strength has improved on my deads!

You know we have PMs for this, right? :P

But awesome! I'm not surprised, Farmer's Walks are amazing. The last set is always damned brutal, isn't it? Lol.

How did you find walking with them? Did your knees or traps/shoulders feel the most stress?

PM's, yah I know, I just thought others might benefit!

Definitely felt it in the traps. I had no problems walking with them, other than my forearms/grip just about gave out on the last set.

What's good technique/posture for this?? I've seen people go really heavy and arch their back and it looks like it could injure.

Definitely straight back, basically just keep as normal a walking posture as you can. Its hard not to shuffle a little bit and shorten your stride, which is fine because you're carrying your bodyweight usually, haha.

Keep your head up, don't shrug the weight (i've seen people try to keep a constant shrug for the whole walk, wtf!?), and keep your shoulders tight.

Not PMing is a good thing, i was just fucking with him .

I think everybody could benefit from them in terms of functional strength. Obviously not everything is as handy as a pair of dumbells, but just picking stuff up and walking with it is gonna use a helluva lot of your body.

Plus your forearms explode. Im like 168lbs and have 13.5" forearms cold, mostly attributing that to farmer's walks.

When you guys do this are you just picking up dumbbells and walking with them or using some type of apparatus attached to the dumbbell?

There are special farmers walk frames/apparatus out there, but most gyms arent equipped for that so dumbells are just as good for most purposes. Olympic dumbells if you're really hardcore because of the thicker bar.

You could use barbells too, but i haven't tried yet. We're trying to organise a strongman competition in my gym for the summer and i've suggested the barbell farmer's walk for that. Have to do those outside really, haha.

I would put them on leg day personally. They're not as hard on your legs as your shoulders, so doing them after upper body might be a mistake.

If only, man. I wouldn't need farmers walks to bulk the forearms up, id just invest in a bangbros subscription and protein shake on tap.

But yeah, give them a go and see how you like them. Its a nice way to finish off leg day, ill say that.

Farmer's Walk are awesome!

Tried this today, more out of curiosity than anything else, after going through this thread earlier today.

Man, these are AWESOME! The dumbbell slipped off my hands in the last sets but the pump and feel were just out of this world.

Thanks, Gaz and highpockets for sharing this with the world. This is a gold mine, for keeps

Ok, now we got them on Lower (leg) day, thanks. WHEN would you do them on leg day? Beginning? Your workouts will suffer... End? You may fall over... Middle?
