    Agree with Captain Napalm: I'd listen to what they have to say, evaluate it against real world experience, use it if it makes sense, discard it if it doesn't - but I wouldn't waste my time arguing (and put that effort into something that is worth doing)...

    If you are concerned about forearms, quit using straps (if you are). Heavy pulls (rows, deads, etc) will help develop your grip strength and adding in hammer curls and pronated (reverse) curls should be enough for most lifters.

    Training while sick

    I train as best I can - just reduce the intensity because my body is already fighting to recover. Staying out of the gym is much harder mentally than going, and I believe that a light workout actually aids or facilitates recovery. Or so I tell myself, so I have an excuse to go train.

    Use the knowledge gained to date, educate yourself further, make use of the expertise and collective knowledge on this site - and save some $$$.... you can learn to train effectively, and considering your trainer has little regard for your needs - fire him.

    I typically use 5x5 on specific exercises (bench, barbell rows, squats, dead lifts) but not for ancillaries (like flys, side laterals, etc)... and I do them for 4 weeks and then switch up (like most of the people above)... sometimes I will go up to 5x3 for 1-2 weeks and then deload. Good tool...
