Get Shredded!
For anyone that cares to participate:

1.) What deadlift stance do you use? Be specific. e.g. narrow sumo, wide sumo, narrow conventional, wide conventional, toe angle.

2.) What is your sticking point? e.g. off the floor, midway, lockout, etc.

3.) What is your strongest point?

4.) What are your general proportions: Leg length, arm length, torso length.

I'll go first:

1.) Slightly narrow sumo, toes pointed out ~30 degrees.
2.) A few inches off the floor.
3.) Lockout.
4.) Very long legs and arms, short torso.

The purpose of this thread is to see how different factors correlate in terms of the deadlift.

1) Toes pointed out slightly, conventional width
2) Halfway up
3) Beginning of lift to halfway
4) Same! Long arms and legs.

Is there a good guide or book out there with information on how you should modify the deadlift (e.g. width, form) to fit you based on body type/proportions? Or to fix sticking points?

That is a good question. Check this out:

Here is a video of Al Caslow teaching the sumo deadlift according to sticking points:

As far as sticking points, I always found deficit deadlifts and speed deadlifts good for getting the bar off the floor. For lockout (which is never my problem), I've heard great things about rack pulls, band pulls and chain pulls.

I use a shoulder width stance. My goal is to clean and jerk/press 225 before the end of the year, so that is why the choice of stance.

My mind. ha. but really, I did a pr last week 295, got it for a double, and hell it was easy. Being an old timer, I want to make sure I can pull the weight before I try.

3.) What is your strongest point?

my grip, no need for a reverse grip so far.

4.) What are your general proportions: Leg length, arm length, torso length.

6' tall with 32" inseam, lots of torso, kind of long arms.

You guy should post some videos explaining your techniques and demonstrating the lift. It would take 10 mins of your time, and prove very informative.

1. Very narrow stance - probably hip width with feet pointed straight-ahead.
2. Off the floor
3. Lockout
4. Longish torso and arms, shorter legs

Yeah bro, I'd love to do that, first I need to learn how :hmmm:. Now that my lifts are getting bigger I would like to present them to the forum, because, it is due, in part, to the knowledge I gained here. I will for sure get someting posted before the year is out :winkfinger:

1. Shoulder width, conventional
2. My most common fail is right off the ground. If it goes up, it slows down drastically moving it around the knee.
3. Once I get it past the knee.
4. 6' with long legs, average arms, short torso.

-
In competition I pull conventional. I line the knurling up to my shins so they are right in the middle. Toes pointed out at maybe 10 degree each side. Just started to pull sumo though and am starting to like it. Pull wide sumo with my toes at 45 degree each.

2.) What is your sticking point? e.g. off the floor, midway, lockout, etc.

-
My normal sticking point is lockout. That last six inches is what kills me. I have weak hip drive and is one of my weak points that I am working on. Lots of pull through, kettle ball swings, belt squats, etc. Slowly getting better and putting it all together. Should be breaking 600 within 6 months hopefully.

3.) What is your strongest point?

-
Usually strongest off the floor. Especially if using a DL bar. My speed is usually great until I hit that last six inches. I have never been pinned on the ground. I always fail in that last six inches.

4.) What are your general proportions: Leg length, arm length, torso length.

-Normal I think. 5'10". My arms measure 34" (from my spine) torso length is 31".

Just did deficit sumo squats will get some vids up from my next meet towards the end of the month.
