These sports, along with bbing, are cursed with recurring pain and taking certain herbs and oils are a great way to prevent and even cure pain.

Let's hear your witches brews.
Currently, I'm using ginger root for pain and 3 spoonfuls of fish oil for the focus on arthritic knee pain. 400iu's of vitamin E and 1000mg of C are also great for postworkout recovery.

Cissus quadrangularis for joint pain.

MSM and/or Evening Primrose Oil is pretty good for inflammation.

I've read a number of studies on elderly patients given MSM and Glucosamine. The results indicated that neither did anything for them. Then I've read other studies that showed it helped slightly. I take it but find it works best if you cycle it and it takes a while to work regardless.

I do about 12000mg a day of fish oil, and 3-6 grams vit c. If Im training for a really heavy comp Ill add in some cissus. I take D3 for recover also, 4000IU in the warm months when Im outside more, and 8000IU in the fall winter.

Recently I've started using Sorenzymes by Labrada Nutrition immediately post workout.
Seams to help tremendously with DOMS

They are calling them systemic enzymes rather than digestive. Mike Mahler swears by them so I figured I give it a shot. I'd be interested in your opinion though when you do the research.

Keep insulin levels low.

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones

I'd probably call it embellishment.
Not to be a ballbuster, but how is M. Mahler qualified to make an assertional statement that this product works?

Not ballbusting but how are any of us qualified?
I do know that I am not.

Fish oils have been shown to reduce inflammation in the arteries, whether that applies to anything else im not sure. This goes for all sources of EPA and DHA, though. Fish oils are good in a number of other ways, also.

Vitamin C and other antioxidents can counteract reactive oxygen species produced by metabolism or phagocytosis during infection which will prevent rather than treat inflammation and damage.

I've seen good results from MSM, also, but haven't really read a lot of research backing that observation up.

Also ibuprofen.

juggernaut where is the best place to pick up your companies supps? I would like to give them a try.

Also on another not, what are you guys thoughts on resveratrol for recovery, does it actually work well?

definately the fish oil...i am glad to hear ginger is good for it since i add that to foods for digestion help. i wonder if capsaicin in hot peppers helps since it helps with blood circulation and metabolism?
anyways search on youtube health benefits of tumeric (not sure if correct spelling). its the stuff that makes mustard so yellow and is a big part of Indian cooking. ig uess if you love yellow mustard you can get it that way but i just add it to food i cook and cant even notice the taste really. its also in curry powder. it is suppose to be great for joints and i would say for me it is working. its not magic but it helps.

devil, I did a quick search on google scholar and it turned out a lot of interesting findings for capsaicin and inflammation. Most studies were with lab rats, but there was quite a bit of information on human studies as well.

Might want to also consider mustard oil as well.
Awesome! and its found in all Hot Peppers right? i put Japlapenos in my foods and chili powder or pepper flakes so guess im lucky i love hot stuff.

what about shark cartilage? it sounds like some wholistic crap to me except i was watching a video on youtube about GSP and he mentioned he takes it.

Abstract
Natural products from flora and fauna are frequently used as nutritional supplements and medicaments. Two short-term assays were carried out and negative results were obtained for shark-cartilage containing preparation. The tests employed were the Salmonella/mammalian microsome assay using tester strains TA97, TA98, TA100, TA102 and TA1535 with or without S9 mix and the SOS-Chromotest with Escherichia coli strain PQ37. Evidence for shark-cartilage containing preparation functioning as an antimutagen was detected. Using bacterial survival assays with Escherichia coli fpg (BH20) and xthA (BW9091), we investigated the putative role of shark-cartilage containing preparation in protecting cells against lesions induced by hydrogen peroxide in normal and low iron level conditions. Our data suggest that shark-cartilage containing preparation can play a scavenger role for reactive oxygen species and protect against DNA lesions in both conditions.

Just one study of many, but this reflects that shark cartilage is better suited for cancer therapy...as far as how well it works for other issues pertaining to DOMS, inflammation and the like is still a debate.

Do a search for Dit Da Jow and Zheng Gu Shui. Herbal chinese linaments that are nothing short of amazing in my experience.

Did a quick wikipedia on both. Very interesting stuff.

Both will make you smell like a Chinese apothecary/whorehouse. But I just had a severe ankle sprain the other day and alternating these brought the inflammation down really fast. I was very impressed. Find someone with a legit black belt or who runs a martial arts school and they should be able to point you in the right direction.
