An abducted 5-year-old girl was found huddled beneath a playground slide early Tuesday, nearly a full day after a stranger claiming to be her mother took her from a Philadelphia elementary school. (Jan 15)

I wonder why home schooling and private schooling at a all time high? It's not just helicopter parenting. It's not the terrible things that people do. It's the god damn media that's in your living rooms, bedrooms, work, gas stations tv's, your phone, computer. I'm guilty as anyone. I watch this shit. I stand like a dumbass at the gas pump, I look at the news on my work computer, check in on my phone every couple hours. I'm addicted.
i don't want to send my kids to school and I fully understand that the only reason i am aware of so much horrible news is because of its availability...

Also, another girl in pa was recently found dead in her car, after being missing for several days.. My freinds and I knew her. There's been several missing person cases in pa lately, and it's really sad.

the woman that took her needs to be beaten to death with a baseball bat.

My wife and I home school our kids. I don't trust what there teaching/preparing the kids with. Also we only get our news from online no cable or sat tv at all ,only Netflix. It is hard to protect them when the media wants to fuck em up as much as possible. They want kids growing up only knowing that if you have a problem that a person of authority( government) can fix it and no one else... I we teach our oldest how to shoot properly, how to invest, and how to stand up for what's right!and if some stranger is trying to do something wrong, how to get out of that situation or kick some ass which ever you gotta do to keep safe.

we should ban schools, too many children are killed or abducted from them

do you worry that they may not develop some of degree of social skills? I have thought about home schooling mine but part of my concern is that all this technology is separating people, kids don't interact like they did when I was a kid. I don't want to isolate them anymore then is going to occure naturally. It's high tech and low touch. (Not saying this is your kids, just spitballing) I mean you could home school a kid, then they could get a on line degree and get a telecommuting job, and all there "friends" could be on Facebook. Never have to leave the house... Never have to worry about a school shooter, never have to worry about getting mugged, never have to worry about getting emotional hurt/bullied.

Home schooled students have many opportunities to develop their social skills courtesy of programs through the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Scouts, church organizations, youth football, Little League Baseball or Softball, and more.

only if the parents involve them, I had a friend who was home schooled and he was a strange dude and lacked the humor and street understanding of things. I got real tired of hearing what does that mean every 5 minutes

The woman was wearing a "burka" where only her eyes were showing and they released the little girl to her without her showing I.D. So I completely blame the school for this event. But the only description of this woman is that she has green eyes. Unbelivable.

my kids were both home-schooled almost every year and have no trouble making friends etc. the social isolation of home-school families is exaggerated. for the most part socializing via public school kids was negative.

my house was always the house full of neighborhood kids even though my kids didn't go to public school. even a couple little kids that didn't get along with my kids would come there when their parents were drinking cuz it was safe. just going to the park, pool, sliding in winter. it's ridiculous to think kids need public school to meet other kids.

There isn't punishment enough for those that harm children. I would however like to beat her nearly to death...several times never allowing her to know if she was going to live or die and for her to know fear just like that child knew fear.

Sure... But going to school 5 days a week 7-8 hours a day is a much more immersive experience...

In a different incident at the same school, three 10- and 11-year-old boys were charged in November 2011 after reportedly sexually assaulting another boy in the restroom.

immersed in what exactly? .

Father Questioned in 5-Year-Old's Abduction | NBC 10 Philadelphia

Authorities describe the suspect as a dark-skinned black woman in her 20s, standing 5-foot-8, wearing Muslim garb, who may have been pregnant. They also believe she has green or light eyes and may go by the name "Rashida."

They say that the suspect and victim walked away from the school and met with a man several blocks away at a nearby home.
That man, Police Captain John Darby says, is now a suspect.
He is described as a light-skinned, possibly white male, in his late 30s, with short, brown hair. He was last seen wearing sweatpants and a long-sleeved blue T-shirt. Police also say there may have been other adults involved.
Authorities believe the child was taken to a home not far from the school. They have narrowed the area down to a four-block radius with the school being the central point. That area is Spruce to Christian Street and 56th Street to Cobbs Creek Parkway. They are now going door to door with a description of the alleged abductors.
While in captivity, the victim was blindfolded and told to undress, according to police. She was given an adult T-shirt and at one point, was made to hide underneath a bed, Darby announced in Tuesday's press release.
Police believe the victim was targeted and say she was asked for by name at the school.
The girl, who was found on a 69th Street playground by good Samaritan Nelson Mandela Myers, was missing for less than 24 hours.
Sources tell NBC10 the child was kept in a home overnight and that other children were also inside the home.
"Based on the evidence given to us, this little girl suffered conditions that no child should endure," said Captain Darby during the press conference.

Im with you. I'm playing devils advocate... With myself in part because my kids are still young but schooling options are coming in my future. I constantly wonder if being exposed to the media and the news is making me crazy.

clearly bad people are doing bad things to people around the world. And harming children is the essence of evil. I simply wonder if the media exposure to these events are giving us a degree of anxiety that is unhealthy for us and resulting in decisions that are unhealthy for our children's social development.

better safe than sorry. for both my kids i saw the shit they had to deal with at public school rob them of that carefree shine of happiness and they started to expect people to be the shitbags they so often are. taking them out brought that glitter back to their eyes. they have to deal with the stress and bullshit of life soon enough why not let them be free of it in their formative years? kids are open. loving, kind then their little shitbag peers teach them that the world is cruel and perverted. i'd have rather never put Tesla in public school than remember how it felt to have her come home and tell me how some little girl's dad pissed in a cup and made the girl drink it.... both kids have been in school when kids got caught bringing weapons to school, a hand grenade, a gun and knives... 3 teachers assaulted my son, knocked him out and locked him in the dark, then child protective services told me they see teachers abuse kids all the time. unless it's sexual abuse or caught on video they are virtually untouchable... at college girls got raped and campus cops cover it up so parents feel safe sending their kids there. screw public schools.

I feel much better now... Geez
you know those baby bjorns(chest backpacks you put your baby in) I'm going to have 18 year old strapped in it...

i gave my kids a lof of freedom just very carefully. love will guide you. don't blindly conform and don't teach them to. today every day in public school is a roll of the dice with your child's life. that's not paranoia, it's true.

just because EVERYONE is having a shit sandwich for lunch doesn't make me want one too. :coffee:

home schooling is awsome! For the right children... How often do you hang with your friends 5-7 hrs a day non stop? I bet home schooling is mor e like real life and kids can adjust quicker with a more realistic sense of the real world. We have a home school group that meets once a week for the kids to opals and socialize, then they have a. Morning that covers music, then they come with us on real world adventures like grocery shopping or collecting the rent from our rentals. They grow up expecting real life not. The school Bullshit... Oh what is my friend wearing what are they doing today what did they say... None of the kids graduating from school are prepared for the real world so what do they do? Go to college to continue the party/high... Then don't really wake up till almost 30. That is a problem. Ad when they get out of college what do they have to show for it a 100k/yr job? No but they do get close to 100k of debt that they have to repay while working at Mickey D's

Home schooling is way better but it takes a serious commitment. And it sucke more than not.

Fuck all of you and your nonsense. I want to know the incredible untold story here. What were the intentions of the kid nappers? Who is the hero that basically saved the girl by putting her out and telling her to run for help.? What happened to the person that saved the girl?

at my daughter's school, You have to be on a list in order to pick her up.. You can be the father, but if your not on the list.. You will not be able to remove her from school..
Both my wife and I are supposed to get phone calls .. and we do when she is not in school..
