that was a real article from 1955, don't get mad at me! 
Not to sound sexist but think of how much more functional life was back then. The wife stayed home and took care of the house and the kids.
Today are kids get raised in daycares by unqualified teenagers and we struggle at nights and on the weekends to grocery shop, do laundry, clean the house, etc.
It's rediculous!

Can you fucking believe that! Less than 50 years ago and women were actually thought to be inferior! I don't know of too many magazines that would have to balls to publish something like that now. We would eat them alive!

yeah, plus, marriages stayed together. there was like a 5% divorce rate or something, because divorce was comlpetely scorned. i think everything went downhill when God was taken out of the public schools and evolution was put in, but thats jsut me. and dont even start a religion thread, cause we'll all be at each other's through. but it is true that right after God was taken out of school, teen preganancy, and crime rose drastically.
Actually thats total bullshit. Especially about Teen Pregnancy. Instead parents shamely took their daughters out of their public school and put them in specials schools and homes to have their babies. All this being done and never a word of it spoken to anyone. I know several people that this happened to. An now they have children older than me out there but because it was all so secret there were never any documents about the adoptions or they were destroyed and they can't even find their children that they didn't want to give up in the first place but were forced to.
Yes divorce was scowled upon but there were more cheating husbands than there are now but the wives couldn't do anything about it. They just had to suck it up. Things were just as bad then its just that it was all kept to family secrecy because people were ashamed. Now its public and people think its worse and ITS NOT! At least now women get to speak up for themselves. Thats the difference, and I'm glad its changed. An I don't think taking God out of schools had anything to do with it.

I'll have to agree with mochy in that taking God out of the schools had nothing to do with any of the teen pregnancies or the future divorce rates. All of this went on just as it does now but like it has already been said it was kept behind closed doors. There is so much going on in todays world that has never been talked about in the past. Take for instance all of the sex scandles in the church. Don't think for a second that this is something new. If God is truely the reason for our kids being all screwed up then where has He been for the past couple of centuries while the priests have been molesting little boys?

i have to agree that the american family as a whole was a lot better off back then. i think a lot of relationships were too. how is a man going to treat a woman who values him and his contribution to the family enough to show it by being a good wife? a few statements were too much of course but the premise is sound.

well i think there is a saying, a good wife is a lady in the livingroom and a whore in the bedroom. couldn't print that back then but it was pretty common knowledge and it covered the whole blowjob isue..

i do know stories of girls getting shipped off to have their babies, in fact it happened to my grandfather's sister, but i really don't think there was as much teen sex. i mean come on who hasn't heard of 13 yr olds having "rainbow" parties? back then kids didn't shoot up their teachers and classmates, no where near as many kids drank alcohol, did drugs, committed crimes or killed themselves. i honestly believe a lot of the problems today's children face are a result of women having careers instead of attending to their family first and foremost. i worked in the campus daycare while i attended college and can tell you point blank daycare is no place for a child. they get up before they are ready to n are rushed out of mommy's life and her work day is done before the child sees her again and i really don't think a woman with that job on her plate is going to have what it takes to meet the emotional needs of a child when she is as tired and strained from the day's pace as her child is. a woman belongs at home once she decides she wants a family period. society has gone to hell in a hand basket cuz women were convinced otherwise.

I disagree completely. Most families are dual income now a days and not every child from these families are messed up because of this. It's a personal choice IMO and having good values, morals and love for your children will help raise your child into a healthy family just as well as mother staying home with their children. I personally feel it could be worse to have the father gone all day and the child home with their mother. It's promotes a one sided way of upbringing where as if both parents work during the day and are home at night they equally take the responsibitly of raising children.
Not all day cares are created equal that is for sure but doing your research and finding a daycare that promotes your values is part of the responsibility of raising children.

there have been a few shows like dr. phil that evaluated a family where the woman worked and there are cases where it actually puts more of a financial strain on the family to have the woman work outside the home. once take out meals, dry cleaning, gas, daycare and so on were factored in they were losing money on top of everything else. and i don't know but i think today's men are far more likely to cheat because women being men too has really lowered the expectation of what a man is supposed to be, what society expects from him. back then men had more to be proud of and strength of character was more valued. i think being a man was easier when women were still women.

Also I blame the GOVT, and (some) family groups, for attempting to intervien and steal a parents right/ability to make common sense decisions regarding thier own kids...

I see that as degrading to women.
I agree for some families it is not financial feasible to have dual income and therefore other means are necessary. And off subject a bit but IMO, Dr. Phil is a quack!
The only difference between a man and women is that fact that women were designed to bear children. We were not designed to be the sole contributor in the child's upbringing. Fathers, teachers and mentors should play a big role as well and typically what happens in a family is when the father is the only one working or leaving the children for the day the father never plays the full parent role because they see it as the "mother's job" This is just downright wrong and the children are the ones to pay for it in the end.
