Acting differently/strangely at work

I know most of you guys either work or go to school or both. Do you find yourself acting differently at work? WIth family and friends I am always joking around, but at work for some reason I am always serious. I am a 22 year old college student with two jobs (office environment). My co-workers (all of whom are older) joke around, but I don't know where I fit in(uncomfortable at times). I want to show my professionalism w/o looking like an idiot( i.e laughing and nodding my head all the time). I don't want people to think I am not easy going, but also not like a goof off either. I feel like I am having an identity crisis. Thoughts and opinions?

p.s this situation is similar to the Friends episode where Chandler has the fake laugh at work- minus the ass slapping

Yes, that is how it works here. I personally have been called gay 67 times by Foreman and 12 times by "other".

Work is about money, end of story. I do not work for self worth and personal satisfaction or what ever other horseshit somebody will make up. I am there for the paycheck. So if being serious and lame lands me promotions and better pay, then that is how I will conduct myself.

What is funny is the boss's wife thinks I am this responsible well mannered young man which when I am at work I am. But, when I am home I will smoke a blunt and giggle like a retarded school girl for the next 3 hours with my friends. I might drop some ecstasy pills, eat some shrooms, and snort an 8-ball of coke over the week-end, but then be at work Tuesday morning listening to Ms. Kathy talking about something that happened at her church service Sunday, and I will laugh at her stupid story like I was laughing at the fish tank 2 nights before.

Point being I guess, just do your job the way the job should be done. Who gives a shit what your co-workers think about you? I have had co-workers come and go. I have moved up the latter so to speak while they are still doing the same job they hired in as a year ago.

And yes, welcome to IM, we are all pretty much gay. Although, Topolo is gheyer than most.
