Well, I turn 40 in a few weeks and being the true procrastinator that I am I waited until this time of my life to do something about this body of mine.
I quit smoking 34 days ago and haven't had the slightest withdrawal (This time). I guess I just finally decided that I "wanted" to stop smoking and just layed them down. I feel great about it and nobody had to die.
I read or heard somewhere at some point in my life that once you turned 40 or thereabouts that you primarily start losing muscle and can't really gain any muscle mass. Well, not with just sweat and nutrition anyway... Is this true? I would hate for it to be but I'd like to know what I'm trying to achieve here. Am I trying to bulk up a little bit or am I just looking to trim down and tone a bit since that's all I can do after waiting this long?
I'm 6' , 200 Pounds, and have what my wife calls a little gut (I personally think it's fairly large but not huge) 36/32 pants... The rest of me is probably still how it's been most of my life.. Skinny. For most of my adult life I was painfully skinny, like say 6' , 160 pounds. I was fairly strong but only because of how active I was and what I did for a living back then. Got married 11 years ago, went back to college, got a computer job and have been happily merrily sitting on my ass either at work or home for 10 fricking years getting a gut and becoming about as weak as a man can get. I literally should have my ass kicked for doing this to myself.
Anyway, Now that I have the smoking kicked. I plan on getting into hopefully the best shape of my life. That's my primary new goal in life. So, I'm sure I'll be lurking around these boards looking for advice. I'll appreciate every last drop of knowledge that you all can put upon me.
That's my story...
Thanks,
Prodigus
