It depends on weight, height, previous cycle experience, compound, lifting experience, diet and tolerance to side effects.
Some people like Kevin Levrone can take a moderate amount of AAS + GH + Slin and grow huge, despite being in the 190's in the offseason. Others have to take a boatload of juice year round to maintain size or to gain more size (especially if they're past their genetic limit). I imagine Cutler who is well beyond his genetic limit is just geared to the teeth, but who knows.
You'll notice that the more you cycle, the higher amount of AAS you'll need. You might make great gains at 500mg test + 50mg dbol in one cycle, but feel it's lack luster your next go. Also, some people get great mileage out of certain drugs/combinations at relatively mild dosages. Others need much higher doses to get any effects at all. For example, I remember useatlittle saying he took off on just low dosages of AAS and judging by his lifts in the big 3, i'd consider him one of the fortunate ones.
I personally do not respond fantastically to AAS strength wise, but size wise, am a big responder. I gained noticeable size on my delts/traps/bis/tris that has left me unable to fit into certain clothing I once fit comfortably. However, my big three DL/squat/bp didn't go up hugely, but there was definitely improvement 535/435/265 to 565/455/295. I guess if you train for size, you'll get that size, and if you train for strength, you'll get the strength. So best to specialize. I don't see how stan efferding and jonnie jackson do both, but it's obviously working.
