A spooky clown has been scaring Northampton residents in full costume and make up.

He is red haired and white faced and has appeared in several locations in the Abington and Kingsley areas.
A Facebook page has now been set up for the clown called Spot Northampton's Clown which has already achieved over 3,000 likes since it went live yesterday.

The clown has proved a sensation on social media and has its own Twitter hashtag #northamptonclown.
According to reports it has knocked on someone's door and offered to paint their sills despite having no painting equipment.

Northampton Clown: Mystery circus man now hunted by rival Clown Catcher

It's official, the Northampton Clown has a rival - The Clown Catcher.
In response to the mysterious clown that has been loitering on the streets of Northampton, one resident has taken it upon himself to become the Clown Catcher.

The Northampton Clown first appeared on Friday the 13th, and has been dressing up in a full clown costume with a white face, a bald cap, drawn-on brows, a red wig and ruffled collar.

Doing nothing but standing and staring at residents, has also been seen carrying balloons or a clown teddy.
He has an official Facebook page - with over 60,000 likes - and has divided opinion. Some residents find the Clown terrifying, others funny.

Setting up his own Facebook page, at just over 1,000 likes, the Clown Catcher identifies himself as Boris.
"My name is Boris. I am the official clown catcher. I am not here to scare anyone. I am not here to hurt anyone. I come in peace!"

The Catcher - dressed in a blue superhero suit and sunglasses - has posted several pictures of himself in Northampton where the Clown has been seen.

He said: "I wasn't able to get to Gloucester Avenue tonight to try and 'catch' the clown because I hurt my leg whilst I was climbing up a tree looking for him earlier!
"Hopefully the pain I'm in will all be worth it in the end when we are united with each other!"
Some residents are encouraging the new vigilante superhero, comparing him to Batman, one wrote: "The hero Northampton needs right now, but not the one it deserves?"

Others were less impressed: "No offence but [The Clown] is legendary, what you're doing is attention seeking."
There were also those who think the Clown and Clown Catcher are in cahoots - or may even be the same person.
One person said: "They take pictures of each other I bet!"
Another added: "I bet they're mates. Wouldn't be surprised if he's the clown too."
