bench press grip

hi,could anybody tell me wre is the best place too put your grip on an olympic bar when bench pressing for max results. i put mt little finger on the ring thats usally there. i know wider grip for outer and narrow for inner,but were is the best? cheers.
 
It depends what your goal is with the movement. The wider your grip, the less distance the bar needs to travel. Therefore, a wider grip is advantageous in a powerlifting setting where the goal is to move the most weight.

In a bodybuilding setting where you a trying to evenly apply force across a variety of loci, perhaps a grip somewhere around slightly within the rings to a few inches out would be the idea.
