My vote goes to Lance Armstrong.

wow, tough call, I'll have to think about this one a little longer.

Best athlete in the world.... Hmmm...

I say Lance because of the strength and endurance it takes to win the Tour de France.

Ian Thorpe

I say Ian Thorpe because he is swimming in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 4 x 100 freestyle relay, 4 x 200 freestyle relay, 4 x 100 medly relay at the upcoming commonwealth games. He will probably win only miss out on gold for the 100 metres

Dang, if you are talking about active athletes, no one comes to mind except for Lance.

Thorpedo has been the world's best swimmer for 4 years, since he was 16!!!

Lance has won "Le tour de France" four times in a row and is working on #5 as I write this post!!!

Da mountains are close!!!

Da Hilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllls are alive with da sound of BIKING!!!!
:)

What amazes me about Lance Armstrong and others like him is the way they are able to ride the way they do day after day.

Dat's what makes him a splendid athelete!!!
Specially when you know of his past medical record...
Cancer of da cajunes is something deadly serious...
Any cancer IS !!!
...and now look at him!

I'm not just saying this 'cus I'm a biker,I am truly in haw,to see this human being perform the way he does!!!:thumb:

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
I am not a biker and find watching it to be very boring, but I can respect what they must go through to get to the level that they have.

Determination, focus and LOTS OF TRAINING(road riding, mountain biking,weights,running,swimming...) a balanced diet and lots of research.
I don't even scratch the surface when it comes to how much Lance has put on the line for his sport...It's a way of living!!!

...and I ride alot!!!

4 in a row? Wow... I think in terms of mind over body/pain, anything like the tour de france/marathons has to be up there in difficulty.

After reading and realizing, I'd have to go with Lance Armstrong.

Not sure who else I could possibly pick... tough question really.

LOL. Lance armstrong and all the other Tour De France bikers are on so much EPO that it's not even funny. Damn...anyone with an extremely large heart and so on can become a Tour De France winner if he has the right doctors!

Yes...athletic training and muscle endurance have nothing to do with winning the Tour de France. It's all about drugs and doctors.

Ian Thorpe is a good choice too.

Lance is a great athlete, but I can't help but think that it is really a team sport also. US Postal team is a great team so that really makes a difference in the winning department.

Dang, it is hard to really pick an athlete these days that might be good at many different sports other than the one he/she specializes in.

Guess I'll really have to go with Micheal Vick cause he has an arm, speed, etc. I'll just have to wait a few years until I am proven correct.. hehe

How bout any Curling team members ?

I'm on the Ian Thorpe Bandwagon with this one.

He was a world champion at 16 years old! That's insane! And right now he pretty much dominates every middle to long distance event there is!

By the time he's 30 I'd bet he holds every freestyle record in the books.

I can't say that you are wrong, I have never personally seen any test results to show that they don't. EPO would surely benefit someone in their sport.
I do have to agree with IAB that you can't just take an untrained athlete who is guilty of blood doping and make him a winner.

Lance gets my vote.

I was upset when Tiger won the ESPY for best athlete. Sure he dominates the tour like no other in history but, you just can't compare what Lance does to what Tiger does.

Golf is 99.9% mental not physical while biking is 50% mental and 50% physicial. Lance is the man and the greatest athlete of our time.
