I really considering taking glutamine, but I don't which is the best brand to buy for a person on a budget. Also, some people are telling me that 5g a day is enough and others are telling that 10g a day is better. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I 6'1, 210 lbs, and a little on the chubby side. I've only been lifting for about 2 months now. My goal is to lose the fat and gain muscle. So, I guess I'm on the cutting phase. I don't really care about what brand of glutamine I get. I'm just trying to find a bargain. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I stopped by the local gnc and their brand of glutamine was about $40. I don't know if this is a good price. If you guys know where I can get something cheaper, let me know.
i've heard that it prevents your body from breaking down your muscle too much after you work out and it helps you recover faster. i'm not too sure how big that container of glutamine was, but it was a pretty good size.
Just buy from a reputable company. EAS, Twinlab, ProLab, MetRx, Labrada, Champion, Sportpharma, AST, etc are all fine. Just get regular L-glutamine. Take 5 g on an empty tummy 30 minutes before your workouts and right after your workout. On off days take 5 g 30 minutes before bed.
You could just eat a normal diet with adequate protein and not buy any glutamine. Just because you are on a cutting diet, doesn't mean your wallet is. Save your money.
I use the GNC Pro Performance Glutamine.... the stuff IB is talking about. Sure it cost $40 for 1000g, but they have 2 smaller sizes that cost less. Also, pay the $5 a year for a Gold Card and then only buy on the 1st seven days of the month when it's 20% off, and the second one is 50% off.
The Glutamine is fine.... I take 5 before and 5 after each workout and sometimes 5g in the morning b4 breakfast. I just take a spoonful in my mouth and wash it down with a drink like Gatorade or whatever. It's no big deal... but it helps cut and speeds recovery time, at least for me.

BTW.... Our new GNC at the mall is competing with Vitamin World, so all MuscleTech and EAS products are 30% off all the time, then additional 20% off the first 7 days of each month. I'm saving $.

Markup? You would be surprised. Did you know that GNC probably makes about a 10-15% margin on Super Tuesdays .
Believe me, I wish there was a markup but I should know. I have an online site and 2 Retail stores in Cali and all I have to say is...no...no huge markup guys. Usually if a store buys a product for $20 and then gets a discount of 25% he pays like $15.
The suggested retail is $35 in most cases a 40% markup.
If GNC gives 30% OFF then the price goes down to something like $24.50 still making some money. Now they give another 20% OFF.
Price goes down to $19.60. They paid $15. That is a whopping margin of 23%. WHOA making cash ...not.
Believe me guys I wish the markup was better. Hard to make living if you bring $1000 and only keep $250 a day.
Just a little insight into the world of supp. retail. I suggest people invest money in real estate. I did.
