I recently drove 600 miles in a day by car, I was pretty tired, but it was a good adventure. I like car travel, as it gives you a chance to enjoy the views, stop where you like and choose your own pace. However, it can be a bit exhausting. So, do you enjoy the long ride? What is the longest car trip you have ever had?

Years ago I drove about 1200 miles to pick up an old car a 1964 Ford Galaxie 427 w 2 4Bbl carbs an R code car. I drug a trailer, slept there, then the next morning loaded the car and drove back. I didn't mind it because I had some audio books I listened to and the time flew by. I really like to listen to a good book if I'm driving.

My last long drive was from Denver to Las Vegas and I hit an elk. As soon as I saw a pack of them running across the highway I grabbed the wheel with both hands and hit the brakes as hard as I could. I hit the last one and it was a hard impact. My airbag went off and I ended up on the shoulder of the highway. I was pretty rattled but after realizing the truck was still drivable I went on my way. The entire drive took me about 13 hours. I stopped a few times to eat and get gas but drove straight thru.

Nice car, it reminds me of Chevrolet Impala. By the way, do audiobooks distract you from driving? It seemed to me that the concentration decreases.

Oh my God, at what speed did you hit him?

It's hard to say, I'm sure there is some distraction, but to me it seems nothing, no sounds or music is worse, silence makes me sleepy music distracts. For me me the audio books don't distract as much as music does. I'd guess it's a personal thing for me audio books seem to work best to keep me awake and aware.

this is pretty interesting, though I doubt it will work with me. I visualize everything in my head when I read or hear a story and it is very distracting.
