Does anyone know if creatine and glutamine compete for absorbtion? I recently heard something about this and was wondering if I should alter my postworkout supps or maybe take them at different times.

In a recent article on "Eating for Muscle Timing is everything" by Eric Serrano, M.D. & Jeff Stout, PH.D.in Planet Muscle Vol. 5 #1, they state that BCAA and Glutamine and whey will compete or "battle for digestion and absorption with your Whey drink potentially limiting your progress."

The article later suggest to take your Glutamine and BCAA before your workout and Whey drink after. No mention was made about creatine.

Go figure.

Creatine will not compete with glutamine...take em together if you want.

Kay...good....now can someone please tell me the difference between Creatine and Glutamine???? A friend at work is thinking of taking one of these...but wanted to know what the difference was?????

gopro you say creatine will not compete with glutamine but what about whey, can you mix all three together?

Creatine can be mixed with whey. Glutamine peptides can be mixed with whey. And, yes, all 3 can be taken together. However, regular l-glutamine is absorbed far better on an empty stomach.

that is contrary to a article I read recently. :)

which said that creatine and glutamine use the same carrier molecules to be transported in the body, thus better to take them separately.

Yeah i've heard they compete for absorbtion.

It's nothing i've cared to research further tho, cause quite frankly i don't give a shit.

Hey man, no problem :)

Yes, and these carrier molecules can carry both successfully at one time. We can increase our creatine stores by eating steak, and steak contains both creatine and glutamine. Many supplements are formulated with complete proteins with added carbs, glutamine and creatine...and they have been found to have great absorbtion rates of all nutrients. :)
