I was wondering what you guys thought or if there is any clinical proof that you should not do a lot of running if you are taking creatine do to the fact that you could pull a muscle like a hamstring a lot easier. I was working out pretty hard doing sprints and I kept pulling my hamstrings...at the same time I was hitting the creatine pretty hard. I doubt I was drinking enough water and I pretty much summed up that that was the problem. Well, two years later I'm starting to do the same time of work out, but i want to take creatine but I''m afraid or the repercusions. I was wondering if anybody had tthe same problems? I read somewhere that creatine is banned in some nfl teams due to this fact.

I'm not sure if there is any clinical proof about this, but I would say that there is probably a correlation, especially if you weren't drinking much water. You could also just have bad hamstrings, and once you pull them once, they are much easier to pull time and time again (I speak from experience). I would say that unless you drink plenty of water, and are on a strict flexibilty schedule, to keep away from creatine while in season.

Yeah that was my thoughts exactly.....I play in one footbal game a year(fire against police), and I try to bulk up for it and start getting in shape about two months before it. I'm in pretty good shape already cause of the job, but I really turn it on(normally don't do sprints lolol) and I think my water intake plus the added creatine caused those problems.

but plausible

Creatine has the ability to do major damage to structures within the body, both visceral and muscular. Creatine supplementation promotes a rapid growth of muscle size. Therefore, it is no surprise that there have been many stories about muscles tearing in odd ways and in a extreme number of fibers. The bones and tendons are overloaded and not given enough time to compensate for the increased mass that they must now support.

A bodybuilder told a story of a complete bicep muscle tear that had to be surgically repaired. Prior to starting creatine, the bodybuilder had never suffered from an extreme muscle pull let alone a severe muscle tear (NutritionalSupplements 1999). Another story came from a hockey player who had started taking creatine to increase energy and stamina while on the ice. During a hockey game, this gentleman was checked and tore his pectoral muscle. As many in the medical field will know, a complete muscle tear in the pectoral region is not that common of an injury (NutritionalSupplements 1999).

Question: Is Creatine Banned By The MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, NCAA, Or Any Other Sports League?

Answer #2
Some NFL teams are allowed to use it, however some are not. An example of a team that isn't would be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
