Dead mail ever wonder where your undeliverable mail goes?

I was doing some reading and came across a article about dead mail. The lady had sent a package of books that hadn't hit the shelves yet that she had written. The usps lost them even with tracking. She said with in 1 month of them being lost they we're sold at a open auction buy the usps. She did some digging come to find out they do this with all packages. Anything that has value can be sold at auction. Makes you wonder about all the gear that doesn't get through or drugs etc. What do you think happens to that?? Trash maybe fed's called in kinda makes you wonder.

No usps mail, if it can't be returned or is lost they have a certain amount of time before they can open packages to use for auction. In the case I read up on the lady said it was 4 weeks. The only way she found out about it was the books she sent out hadn't hit the shelves yet. But she seen them on Amazon for sale. So she tracked it from there to a auction that the usps had put them in. Said the man paid $300 for her lost package and had already sold most of the books for $1400. She ended up getting $300 back from the auction for them. Long story short if it's lost and has value it will be auction off.
