DHT and testosterone therapy

Why is it that old men with low testosterone get dht side effects such as baldness and prostate enlargement?
men in the 20's with high T levels dont get prostate enlargement but older men with low T does. Prostate enlargement is DHT related. I would think lower T levels equate to lower DHT levels?
how would dht increase if T decreases?

Its called 5 alpha reductase. In short an enzyme that acts to convert testosterone to DHT. It lowers test in the process. There is a ton of info out there on the mechanisms of this.

What and how much do you take to control it?

You take finasteride. Proscar is the 5mg and Propecia is the 1mg. Typically Propecia is used for hair loss and Proscar for prostate. My DHT was high at my last labs so my doc has me taking Proscar 5mg 3 times a week.
