Dear Jake,

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding supplements. I appreciate your interest in the issues facing our country and state, and I am glad for the opportunity to respond to your inquiry. By contacting me on issues important to you, I am better able to represent Utah in Congress.

As you know, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) addressed supplement definitions, safety, ingredient and nutrition labeling, supplement claims, good manufacturing practices, statements of nutritional support, new dietary ingredients, created a supplement commission, and established an Office of Dietary Supplements at the National Institutes of Health. I understand your concerns about ensuring that the Food and Drug Administration has adequate resources to enforce the provisions of DSHEA and consumers have access to quality, affordable supplements. As Congress considers these important issues, I will continue to work in support of Utah consumers.

Again, thank you for sharing your concerns with me. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact my office.

Sincerely,

JIM MATHESON
Member of Congress

At least you got a response. My congressman didn't even respond to my letter with as much as a form letter response.

So much for representation.
