Gaines Adams dies
Lake Forest, IL (Sports Network) - Chicago Bears defensive end Gaines Adams has passed away. He was 26.
The Index-Journal of Greenwood, South Carolina, Adams' hometown, reports he died Sunday morning in the emergency room of Self Regional Healthcare. The paper reported the Greenwood County Coroner, Jim Coursey, said the cause of death is cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart.
"We are stunned and saddened by the news of Gaines' passing," the Bears said in a statement. "Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time."
Tampa Bay made Adams, a Clemson product, the fourth overall selection in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played in all 16 games his rookie season, starting eight, and totaled six sacks and 38 tackles. The Bucs traded him to Chicago this past October, and in 47 games over three NFL seasons, Adams had 13 1/2 sacks and 93 tackles.
