Greek triple jumper Voula Papachristou banned from Games for 'racist' tweet

What gives? she did'nt call all those niggers, niggers.

What!?

If your gonna be a racist, be a racist. Do it right and never say you're sorry...so when that shit comes back and bites you in the ass it doesn't sting so much.

there isnt a person on the planet who isnt racist in some way to at least some degree, its a free world and people can feel and think what they like,
she chose to step up and represent her country, thus making her a role model, with money behind her from all the people of greece (taxation), some of whom might be black

the problem with sports people is, they should focus more on the sport and less on thinking any smart person gives a flying fuck what they think

she got exactly what she deserved, lost probably the greatest chance in her life, its ok, shes can still be a housewife, cause nobody will hire the red necked bitch!

there isnt a nationality of women on the planet that doesnt have hotties id fuck, just saying thats all

i have an affirmative action cock.....

agree with Paul,
and she is hot

London 2012 Olympics: Greek triple jumper Voula Papachristou banned from Games for 'racist' tweet

By Benedict Moore-Bridger

Greek athlete Voula Papachristou has been expelled from the Olympics after posting a ?racist? tweet online.

The triple jumper was withdrawn by the Hellenic Olympic Committee following her comments mocking African immigrants and expressing support for a far-right party.

She tweeted:

"With so many Africans in Greece... At least the West Nile mosquitoes will eat home made food!!!"

The committee said she was expelled from the team for "for statements contrary to the values and ideas of the Olympic movement".

She was shortly due to arrive in London for the competition.

In a statement, the athlete said: "I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account. I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights.

"My dream is connected to the Olympic Games and I could not possibly participate if I did not respect their values. Therefore, I could never believe in discrimination between human beings and races.

"I would like to apologize to all my friends and fellow athletes, who I may have insulted or shamed, the National Team, as well as the people and companies who support my athletic career. Finally, I would like to apologize to my coach and my family."

Shame for any athlete to be disqualified from something as monumental in sport as the Olympic Games, but... could she have made a more thoughtless joke? Doesn't everyone know that athletes are in the spotlight during the Games? How could she make that joke and not expect some scrutiny or criticism?

Like it or not, each athlete is a representative of their country and should present themselves accordingly.

  • Trash talking = revenue when it comes to sports like boxing, mma, football, and hoops. But not the Olympics...
its largely non pro athletes and an (good or bad) extremely politically correct culture. The only time I can think of racism selling tickets is when boxers Joe Louis and Max Schmeling met (way before I was born).
Racism doesn't sell these days. But just as a side note..I don't think she should have been kicked out.

  • I doubt it. The bad press would increase viewership for people who want her win to represent freedom of speech and how overly PC we've become. Others would tune in to watch a black person kick her ass in the Triple Jump. Trash talking makes an otherwise boring sport more fun for people to see. There are more higher profile athletes and events that generate money. Like Greece is 2% of EU's GDP, she is less than 2% of viewership that will be watching the Olympics

  • Either way I could care less if she was a full-blown white supremacist or crazed criminal. She is a friggin tripple jumper. Who cares about her beliefs? Let the athletes compete. Didn't Jesse Owens kick ass at the German Olympics in front of Hitler? I wish folks would just allow for freedom of speech and get over their self righteousness. What she said was funny and if an African said it people would have laughed at self-depricated humor. She's got balls and I respect that. She has my support.

  • I hear you., History is important.

  • I agree. If Africa had its shit together they'd have nationalism too.

  • Africans did not got to Europe to rape, pillage, slaughter and steal shit like the White colonists did. You cannot compare apples to oranges. Africans since colonization, for the most part hate themselves, to the point where if she placed the words American for African or West Virginia for West Nile, there would be no problem. African men in sports almost always marry whites to breed away African traces in themselves through offspring and whites make up the upperclass in African countries

  • yeah bro. your are talking to a dude who is into the esoteric I've read the Osiris Book of the Dead, 5% Nation (The Gods and the Earths), Black Athena, and other pro Afro-centric works by high powered brothers. I am well aware of the psychology of racism and ancient Afro Asiatic history in the most profound level. What she said was not racist. Maybe she was a bit Nationalistic like most Europeans, but she is not that big of a deal for people to their panties in a bunch over her tweet. Nah mean?

  • you obviously take big black cock up your ass.

  • I'll bet not one of the naysayers, here, is a successful competitive athlete. I am, & I support her people's right, to not be over-run, by people who refuse to learn how to industrialize, make clean water, and other simple human things, America & Europe learned, in last 200 years. Before you sheeple run off, to me, I block, immediately, refusing to have wars of wits with unarmed cretins, & I clearly don't care about comments, or being voted down. I'm not politically correct, but I am correct.

I dont see a problem with what she said, she made a joke in poor taste. It happens everyday countless times across the planet, who is not guilty of this at least one time in their life?

personal opinions should be kept to herself when she is representing a nation, while being bankrolled by it,
if she was short fat and ugly she would be page 30 and forgotten before 10am

she got exactly what she deserved, what some people think was poor taste might be deeply offensive to others

the sad irony is she will be blaming the africans for this.....

Suspect that will be the case.

She got off easy. Banned from a sporting event.

Wonder if they ever killed this guy...

Saudi faces death calls after prophet tweets

RIYADH -- A young Saudi journalist is facing calls for his execution after tweeting remarks about the Prophet Mohammed, and the kingdom's top clerics are demanding his trial after denouncing him as an "apostate."

On the occasion of the Muslim prophet's birthday last week, 23-year-old Hamza Kashgari tweeted: "I have loved things about you and I have hated things about you and there is a lot I don't understand about you."

"I will not pray for you," he added.

The controversial tweet sparked a frenzy of responses -- some 30,000, according to an online service that tracks tweets in the Arab world.

In one response, Abdullah, a lawyer, said that since Kashgari was "an adult... we should accept nothing but implementing the ruling according to Islamic law" or sharia.

Insulting the prophet is considered blasphemous in Islam, and is a crime punishable by death.

Kashgari quickly apologised for his remarks, but the calls for his execution only multiplied.(snip)

It wasn't really racist, she was just pointing out that west nile mosquitos come from Africa and so do Africans so the mosquitos might feel more at home eating their native peolpe. Just a bad joke but anytime you involve niggers in a joke all the white people that pretend to not be racist get all up in arms to show the world how tolerant they are.

I agree 100%, poor taste joke. If it were told in private, people would've laughed, end of story.
honestly, this isn't even news and never should have been looked at twice, but someone saw an opportunity to be "that person" and make an example out if this girl for not being politically correct.

Racism and the Olympics
The Olympics are often considered a special venue where, for a brief time, athletics transcends tense diplomatic relations and the competitive spirit and sportmanship reign, but this idealistic view is far from the truth. Throughout the history of the Games, racism has been a recurring issue. From the infamous Summer Games in Nazi-Berlin and the controversies surrounding the Black Power Salute in Mexico to Iran?sdecision to brand the 2012 London Olympic Games Logo as racist because it resembles the word ?Zion?, historically, racism and the Olympics seem intertwined. Sometimes it is the host country that implements racist policies, for example, the Chinese government had ordered Beijing bar owners to ban black people and Mongolians (i.e. undesirables) from entering their establishments during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Other times competing countries discriminate their own athletes.

White Snow ? Brown Rage
Reiham Salam made his remarks about the ?lily white Winter Olympics, in 2006, during the Winter Games in Turin. In his piece titled ?White Snow ? Brown Rage? Salam asked himself the question ?What if there had been chocolaty role models taking the slopes by storm when I was but a young pup?? He confessed: ?Deep in my heart, I hungered for a mahogany man-killer who would avenge me on the slopes and forever banish my Winter Olympics-induced shame?. During the 2006 Games Salam had hoped that India?s sole Winter Olympics representative, luger Shiva Keshavan, would be this ?mahogany man-killer?. Disappointment followed when Keshavan finished 25 out of 36

its always only a bad joke and bad taste when ur not the one getting insulted

at 6'7 ive heard all the tall jokes and insults that are just jokes, but when i reply "haha thats a good one u short fat gimp" they dont think thats fucken funny anymore,
fucken was 2 minutes ago when they are making jokes about me.....

just like this chick doesnt think her jokes are funny any more either, hopefully other wankers will learn, but rarely do....

I think thats a huge over-reaction. She was making a joke. It sounds like a joke a comedian (ie-Dave Chappelle) would make. Its racially funny. I understand people are sensitive to racism but relax for God's sake. What she said was actually pretty funny and if you are offended by it then you need to step back and relax.

?With so many Africans in Greece? At least the West Nile mosquitoes will eat home made food!!!?

omfg is that all? she could have said Americans if our mosquitoes had infiltrated greece etc and no one would have thought twice. and excuse me but all africans are not black. i can't honestly see her saying that with no malice intended. what a fucking over reaction crock of shit.

Yeah she could have seen Ernie Els walking around, doesn't have to be racist good point LW

While I agree with you on the one hand, otoh this person is or was heading to the Olympics. She's no longer just an athlete but a politician, a role model for better or worse. And if she's not a politician, well, she's certainly dealing with politicians or those who care more about what many seem to think is ridiculous political correctness than they care about freedom of speech or thoughtless jokes.

Image counts, again, for better or worse.

She stepped in it.

Voula Papachristou 'bitter and upset' over Olympic ban

By Andy Nesbitt, July 26, 2012

On Wednesday, Voula Papachristou became the first athlete to be banned from the Olympics for a message that she posted on Twitter.

On Thursday, the 23-year-old triple jumper from Greece sounded off about her emotions since the ruling.

"I have not slept at all and to be honest I am still trying to come to terms with what has happened," she told Reuters. "I am trying to stay calm otherwise I would lose control.

"I am thankful to my coach and family and so many other people who have stuck by me.... After so many years of hurt and sacrifices to try and get to my first Olympics I am very bitter and upset. But what has upset me the most is the excessive reaction and speed of the disciplinary decision.

"I don't know if they want to make an example out of me because of my profile, this is for others to judge, but what I believe is that they used their maximum disciplinary power on me for this," Papachristou said. "They went straight to the final stage in excluding me from the team, which was highly excessive."

Papachristou was punished for posting this racist tweet on July 22: "So many Africans in Greece at least West Nile mosquitoes will eat homemade food."

She later issued an apology on Twitter:

"I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account. I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights.

"My dream is connected to the Olympic Games and I could not possibly participate if I did not respect their values.

Therefore, I could never believe in discrimination between human beings and races."

This would have been the first Olympic Games for Papachristou. Instead she'll be remembered for making history the wrong way.

Just 23 years old and her life is -- quite possibly -- destroyed. It's a shame they couldn't have just given her some kind of community service or a fine. She's an Olympic caliber athlete who misspoke. It's a crying shame.

My guess is that the bitterness will overwhelm her. She did make an idiotic joke, inappropriate and incorrect, but to pull the rug out from under her and disqualify her from participating in an event of such significance is even more mean-spirited, imo.

Im not offended by it, im not african, personally i couldnt give a flying fuck if someone nuked the entire african continent cause Australians will inherit the earth anyway :roflmao:

but what she said reflected on her team, her country and all those she represents,

she sitting at home now sulking, festering with bitterness, exactly where i think she belongs...
