GSP out of UFC 63

That's too bad. We were all looking forward to that fight but of course the BJ Penn rematch is just as good. And a Pierre/Penn rematch will need to happen eventually anyway so this may just be the means for that. Either way we still get a good fight and hopefully GSP will be back shortly.

I would have rather seen GSP but Penn/Hughes 2 will be great.

Wow that sucks! I was really wanting to see that. I think Hughes will destroy Penn. Hughes has gotten so much better while havent seen Penn do anything. Hughes in the first round, another lame match.

Now I'm curious how true the rumors that BJ Penn was cutting down to 155 in order to claim the upcoming UFC light weight title. Everyone seemed to be sure that he was dropping from 170 and that he would instantly be a top contender for the 155 belt. If he was in the middle of that and now has to turn around and regain whatever he cut to get back up to Hughes' weight he may have a problem.

Of course I never saw any solid evidence he was making that cut and I'm not sure anyone ever confirmed it.

If he does show up in optimal physical condition I'm predicting another win (although not as easy this time) and championship reign for Penn. Might only last as long as GSP's injury though. Their first fight was close.

He came up from 155 to 170 before and owned Hughes.
Penn is no joke by any means.

Um, you really need to do some research before posting in this thread again.

Which is why I will wait for it on YouTube.

Penn beat Hughes before. What makes you think it will be a lame fight?

Hughes/Penn 2 is gonna be top notch. Penn will not get knocked out, or submited, and I doubt Hughes will either. I have to laugh when people say "Matt Hughes got so much better since his last fight". How do we know that? He's fought one contender since his last fight with Penn, and that one was lucky. He owned a washed up Royce Gracie, and underachiving Joe Riggs, and another dude I have never even head of. He did beat GSP but that was about to be avenged.... I hope Penn wins, and we see Penn/GSP 2 for the title or even a Diego Sanchez fight. Fuck a Hughes.

I don't like to sit around and disrespect fighters but for some reason it just feels like it's time for Hughes to fall. Maybe it's just the bad taste in my mouth left from the Gracie fight, which I kind of knew would turn out how it did leading up to it. It was the logical outcome but still hard to watch for a long time MMA fan.

Penn should have to work his way up in order to get another shot at Hughes. He's only had one fight since returning to the UFC and he lost. That's kinda ridiculous. In my opinion, Diego is more entitled to a shot than BJ Penn is. Even if Penn beat Hughes ages ago, he should still have to work his way up the ranks. Maybe fight a Josh Burkman, Nick Diaz, Spencer Fisher, Drew Fickett or something. Then he'd be a true champ if he beat a few contenders. Regardless, Penn/Hughes II will be entertaining.

I really don't care about that. Although I would like to see Penn fight some more. Penn has proven himself many times. Royce didnt' have to climb the ranks. Silva isn't going to when he fights Liddell. Penn vs Sanchez would be interesting. I would love to see it but I could care less about him having to climb the ranks. Is it a title fight?

Penn by armbar in round 2

I'm just sayin. For the UFC to gain more respect in a widespread sense, it should follow boxing somewhat and fighters should have to prove themselves before being offered title shots. If Penn loses this, who wants to see him fight again? I know I wouldn't. That would be two losses in a row since being reinstated into the UFC. I'd rather see him take on some contenders and work himself up a little before taking on someone as seasoned as Hughes. Not a big deal, but why jump right back into the UFC and fight the top 2 in the divison right away after being MIA for awhile? Boost his confidence a little first with a few of the younger guys and then go after Hughes/GSP for the second time.

The Royce Gracie fight with Hughes was just a publicity stunt with the old versus new. Everyone knew Hughes was going to destroy him. Plus Royce had owned everyone if the UFC for years when there were no divisions.

And the Silva/Liddell fight is just a feud between Pride/UFC. Another stunt. Nothing really having to do with divisions.

But anyone will in the UFC will fight pretty much anyone within divisions and this particular one will be good even though I think Hughes will come out on top. I'm just speaking strategically.

Diego fought last week, I don't see him taking a match a month and a half later. I honestly think Diego would get destroyed against anyone of note, though. He was supposed to get the winner of Hughes/GSP, but I don't know how it will go now that GSP withdrew.

Yeah I didn't mean Diego should fight Hughes at UFC 63. I just think he's more entitled to a title shot. But Hughes has been tossed a bone his last two fights so he should have to make a difficult defense this time around. Penn is great, he just doesn't deserve it. An undefeated ground and pounder like Diego makes more sense to me, that'll be down the road though cause as you said he just fought.

I would love to see Diego in there. Even more so then Penn. To say Penn doesn't deserve it is wrong IMO. Penn is a great fighter and will make this fight great. People said he didn't deserve to fight Hughes when he just stepped up a weight class and fought the champ. He beat Hughes before. I believe he definatly deserves this. He will give Hughes a big test. Hughes is just crazy strong though.

I honestly think this match is going to be a bullshit match and Penn has no chance. I am now not ordering this because its going to be a terrible PPV.
It doesnt take research just common sense.

Welcome to the real world......no wonder everyone picks on you. Penn is far from a premier fighter. He is not even in the same class as Hughes. Hughes will destroy him and it will be one of his easiest fights.

You are so wrong, you make Doublebase seem cool.
