In a van, down by the river...
Sean Penn is a self-important little douche bag who shouldn't be allowed to reproduce. His so called interview with Castro made me want to hurl.

I always carry a camera crew with me when I try to do a good thing.

hahahah I thought this thread was going to be about Josh Koscheck, but still....hahahhah :D

So an actor who not only brings money to the table but actually shows up on the scene and starts helping is the douchebag, yet the hundreds of actors sitting pretty in Hollywood maybe tossing some spare change, their douche-baggery is the real one with no end....

I think documenting the efforts help to publicize what's going on in Haiti, same as when he went to NOLA, yeah he had a full boat but he was able to find stranded people and coordinate the actual aid workers to pick up the people.....in the end the man is helping do something other than throwing money at the situation....Their is usually plenty of money and never enough manpower to make efforts on this scale efficient. Food comes in by the palletfuls and their is never enough people to distribute it quick enough....

Also it seems he has lessons learned at each venture and it won't be long before his Organization may become valuable as the Red Cross....

Besides it seems CNN are the ones cashing in on his celebrity since it's their reporter following Penn around....

You lose all kudos on a good deed as soon as you bring a camera crew with you.

Not if part of your deed is to bring awareness to the situation....plus CNN followed him on their own.....

Supposedly Jesus carried his disciples around to testify about his miracles, how else would he make folks aware?

This shit, right here.

He's like so many other celebrities. He's out for the publicity that'll keep his career alive and him in the limelight.

Who give a fuck of he goes on site when most don't. Most of them are self-aggrandizing douche bags.

A good example of a celebrity that does good stuff the right way? Paul Newman. He did so many good things without ever telling the press. Some of which didn't come to light until after he died.

Sean Penn doesn't need charitable publicity to keep his career alive, he's a damn fine actor who'd get movies without leaving his home.....I think all he wants is to shine some light on the dire situation Haiti is facing, what better way than have CNN follow you around with camera's.....

And towing his own photo crew around was so philanthropic. Never mind that leaving them behind would have made more room for the people he was supposedly trying to save. Giving how he's shown that he likes to be seen while doing "good", I'm sure he made no mention to CNN of going to Haiti.

He's a douche that capitalizes on the suffering of others.

I don't blame him for going with a full boat in NOLA, he wasn't qualified to rescue people, had anything happened while trying to rescue people he'd have faced lawsuits....helping the qualified officials pinpoint survivors was the best move, also he documented the tragedy....I think he may have a bit of journalist envy, but that doesn't make him a horrible person....again those are the ones hiding behind comfort when they have all the riches and time in the world to do the same....

I just believe that he does it to feed his ego and his image. The situation smells. I don't believe he has genuine intentions.

Since, unlike other celebrities, he goes out to feed his ego, that makes it good?

Document the tragedy? Because the multitudes of cameras and reporters in New Orleans and Haiti weren't quite cutting it.

He felt it was more important to have a photographer in his small boat than another spot for a victim.

Oh, yeah, he's sincere...right...

I really don't give two craps about what his intentions are in Haiti. I wish it had been obliterated instead of just damaged a little then I wouldn't have to listen to all the bullshit about it anymore. I'm really sick and tired of hearing everybody and their mothers crying "oh poor Haiti" so if Sean Penn is using them for publicity than more power to him cause it's about time someone stopped kissing their asses.

To have sympathy about a catastrophic event were millions of people died its normal, not only that its what makes us humans. Take a chill pill.

because of voodoo the Haitians deserved the wrath of god

With his name more people will take notice of the tragedy, we hadn't talked about it in weeks until this was posted so obviously it's having that effect....

When Mr. No name does a report people ignore it, with Sean Penn people go "Oh I know that guy what's he up to?"

Celebrities use their fame to draw support for aid and charity all the time I don't see the difference in this situation. Sally Struthers uses her name for the Child Fund does that make her a Douchebag? "Hi I'm so and so, here to bring your attention to....." is widely used for charity and aid commercials, why say their name? Why even have a celebrity do the commercial?

Wow!

In my legal class, a gal spoke about Sean Penn cutting off a school bus of people and without even a note of apology. She was very upset and without any such like toward this actor (person).:pissed:

Guess the stardom has gone to the head.:geewhiz:

If they want to be an independent country then they need to take care of their own shit. I don't know if they asked for help or not, but either way, we don't need to be sending thousands and thousands of dollars to a bunch of little assholes that are using it to fund crime, when our own country is already in debt.
It is not my fault they got hit by an earthquake, or that where the hell ever got hit by tsunami, I shouldn't have to pay for it.
Do you realized that there are children right here in the us that eat out of dumpsters, and don't have a pair of shoes to put on their feet? Or that there are us soldiers, people who wrote a blank check to this country up to and including their life, and they can't get health care or can't feed their families? This country needs to get it's friggn priorities in order, and take care of all of it's fallen patrons in this country before it goes around placing band-aids on the rest of the world. :loser:

We are the richest most capable Nation the world over, we have been helping other less fortunate nations since way back...We do what we can to care for our less fortunate at home, how many people are on Welfare, people can get gov. aid for housing, we train people for jobs....and guess what we try to rebuild fallen countries in an attempt to keep a massive influx of illegal aliens from swarming in and taking the menial jobs starving families native to our country need to survive. Imagine if we didn't help these 3rd world sesspools, they'd just over flow and pour into our semi-pristine pool. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure...

Now as far as taking care of our soldiers and others like them who have served the nation with honor, we could easily remedy that by not spending so much on other military expenditures.....I don't know if you have seen the pie chart on US budget but the amount we spend in the Defense Department is mind blowing....

I think if we paid every soldier, sailor, marine and airman a percentage of pay by year after discharge for life or full pay for service after retirement, or after disability or even death(to the families) it would stimulate them to put their best efforts forward it would also attract a much more intelligent group, college bound kids.....I'm not saying all of those serving now are morons, but with better benefits we'd have a brighter more capable armed forces willing to put a little extra ommph into their service. No weapon can replace a well greased organization of people....

I believe that you're correct. Even moreso when you consider that the US gives out, in absolute dollars, to the world as much as the next 5 or 6 countries, but we keep getting bitched at because we rank 18th in giving per capita.

We give the most, and we still get bitched at. Screw that. I say, just like you, that we should stop giving out money. Let them bitch about that instead.

Most of the world is poor. Experience and common sense have shown me that poor people are poor for a reason. We should not throw good money after bad.

I understand that that is a good reason to help, but at the same time I feel we need to stop letting everyone with a sob story into America.

Still a catastrophic event, where lifes were lost. Whether is in atlanta or haiti, we are still human. To have sympathy its completely normal and it has no borders. What your complaining about is the same thing many agree on , the united states should fix their own problems before they go all over the world and get into other countries business. Hell I even agree with it but I see no need to be so negative against a event like the earthquake on haiti where so many experienced hell on earth. Earthquake here in Chile left many dead and without home, just happend a couple of months ago. Its horrible how a couple of minutes can dramatically change many lifes and leave people homeless.

Yes it is horrible. I'm not saying I don't give a fuck or that I don't at all feel bad for them, I'm saying it's nature, it happens deal with it. If people want to volunteer their own time and go over and help clean up and rebuild etc, good for them, but we don't need to be using up our resources to do it when our own kids are starving.

 Anyway I think you would make a much more valid point if you disagree with America spending billion into their wars dont you think? I would like to visit the middle east in the near future to see with my own eyes whats goin on over there, America has categorized people in the middle east as being the big bad wolves over centuries.

and haiti also of course.

I say keep the wolves at bay in their own den instead of trying to run them out of your meat locker later on...
