Tattoos, I used to like them, and I guess I still find one or two small ones acceptable, but for the most part I don't care for them. This forum seems to be particularly tattoo-friendly, so I just wanted to voice my dissent. You may now return to your scheduled programming.

I used to think they were cool, but I guess they bother me most in terms of rating a guy on his date-ability. I tend to think a lot of tattoos (from their youth) represents a lax upbringing and makes me question his choice of social circles. I also think it would be un-presentable to the parental units.

I still find guys with tattoos attractive, I guess I just can't take them seriously.

Valid points...yet it all depends on what u value the most and look for in your "mate"...I mean to me, my body is sort of like a canvas...Every mark, wrinkle and yes tattoo and peircing represents a specific time or feeling in my life. I would be sad to find out that people are judging me to be of "suspicious upbrigning" simply because of body art....

I actually look forward to getting older with these permanent markings...

I come from a strict Greek household so my values may differ, and I didn't mean to offend. I also want to note that the more thought and meaning put into a tattoo, the less I find it undesirable. Take a person with a whole bunch of tattoos (lets say more than 4) who had gotten them all while very young and don't mean much to that person, then you wonder why they are there.

Think about it tho, if u really wonder about the presence of those tatts...Makes a gerat conversation starter with a "prospect"!!

I have to agree tho, if it dont mean shit, then why do u have it on ur body??...Many get it done as a "fashion statement", which IMHO it is not.

This is the thing that bothers me too. Hell, I've got a tat and I still look at some of these young kids and wonder about what in the world they were thinking. I tend to lose respect for them simply because I think they got ink out of peer pressure or just because it's cool at the moment. Tats should mean something to the person and not just be a spur of the moment fling. I didn't get mine until I was 30 years old. It took a lot of years of searching for exactly the right picture. Now that I have it, I'm glad I waited. I got exactly what I wanted and have absolutely no regrets. Ever since I got the first one 12 years ago I've been thinking about getting a second, but I'm holding off for the same reason. I don't want to get more ink just for the sake of doing it. I want it to mean something. I essence, I'm agreeing with both sides of this issue.

Ok, I have to chime in here as well. I find random markings and body alterations a little disturbing as well. However, a tattoo that represents an important chapter in a persons life is acceptable. Most of the time these will be placed on the body in discrete places. For example I have a tat on my back that represents my time in the Corps. It means a lot to me because it represents everything that I belive in. ( God, Country and Corps). But unless I have my shirt off you would never even know it is there. Just my two cents for what it is worth.

dayuumm viv, I am hurt. I guess you can't take the greatone seriously then... ... no matter thou, b/c usually being unnacceptable to the parents means more sex from the daughter, ya dig! lol............ seriously thou, I do think you are being a little to vague and stereotypical thou. I mean In some ways I agree with you, anyone who has a tat that means nothing personaly to them is a fool, but all of mine mean alot to me and express a part of my character. I think its really something you have to judge on a case by case basis, but thats just me...

I don't know if I stated my feelings unclearly or if my words are being taken out of context, regardless I never said I disregard anyone with tattoos. I just want to know the reason behind them, and lack of a reason makes me wonder!

I find them less than exceptable, just as you prolly find Yankees fans less than exceptable. It is a matter of personal preference.

one thing i can assure you... there are people from very strict households with parents and extended family who would never approve of a single tattoo no matter how old they get who have tattoos. you'd be wrong to assume anything about family values or upbringing based on having (or not having) tattoos.

I have two scars from some serious injuries that occured in my life, one on my shoulder and one on my ankle. I was thinking about getting them tatted over with something that shows I'm strong and pulled through my hardships. You think thats a good reason to get inked?

Oh and they would definetly be atleast larger than the palm of my hand. The one on my shoulder is on the front of the shoulder. I would probably get one that strechs down my chest a little and wraps around my shoulder.

William that is something you'd have to decide for yourself. But I'd look into tattooing over scars, it may be much more painful (or not). Just a thought.

I know what your saying...so please don't take this personally or get defensive...but how you can YOU not like someone ELSES tattoo because it has no meaning? I don't see how that should affect you or anyone at all. I can see how excessive tats could bother someone...but meaning is not anyones business. IMHO

I find it hard to believe that you think it is impossible to dislike something even if it has no impact on you. Place yourself outside the situation, or apply it to something else, and reconsider. You can like or dislike anything and everything. I didn't say it gives me a headache, or makes my eyes bleed, I just don't like it.
