Other sports like Soccer and Nascar come to mind but I think Baseball takes the cake.
I honestly think the only reason baseball is surviving is because the older generation passes it to the younger generation. Theres no way in hell watching a 3 1/2 hour baseball game with a score of 2 - 0 gets many newcomers by itself.
The only way baseball will survive the next 20 years is by instituting the following changes...
1) Take out 1 outfeilder. This would make it so REAL athlete would have to play the game. Teams would need speed and it would add a whole new layer of depth. Of course scoring would skyrocket so you would need to balance it another way. 2 out per inning?
2) The NBA has a 24 second shot clock. MLB should have a 20 second pitch clock.
3) Basemen should be able to impede the progress of runners. Once again this would screw scoring up badly so you would need to balance it.
4) Move the batter back with a lighter bat. Less home runs and more hits. You would only need to move him back 5 - 10 feet. There is nothing more boring than watching a batter/pitcher go to a full count.
5) 3 strikes your out. However the pitcher only gets 2 balls.
Would any of this fix the MLB or is it already a dying sport?
