Be warned: It does change some system files.

You can make Windows XP look, and act, like Vista. Get the Vista Transformation Pack 6.0. Did I mention that it's free? Although, if you want transparency, you'll need to buy Window Blinds for $20.

I can't post this without doing a shameless plug for Ubuntu Linux; and it's also free. Oh, and you can get an add-on called Beryl, which does stuff like this...and this.

For the most part, eye-candy is all Vista has to offer; on the plus side anyway. There are a lot of negatives to it, though.

I believe I posted the first vista thread about 4 months ago.. .

i'm not touching vista for a while...

Hey DOMS, will this program kill my memory and bog up my system like Vista does? Also, does this program just make your computer look pretty or does it also carry the negatives that Vista does.

I imagine that it'll take more memory. If only because it'll have to load more graphics. I'm used Window Blinds before and it didn't take much memory or much CPU. You will really shouldn't load this if you have less than a gig of memory.

The modifications are only visual. You wont have the security and driver issues of Vista.

I have ubuntu linux!! I love it lol

I first tried Slackware back in '97, then I tried Redhat in '99, and then I tried Suse in 2002. Each time it was a let down.

Back in the day, setting up X server could fry your monitor if you're you weren't careful. Not to mention that Slackware was the rawest version of Linux.

Red hat blew because of RPMs. I'd always end up in RPM hell; which is another reason why I like Ubuntu. It's Debian-based and uses the Debian packet manager.

And Suse was just blah. I can't really say why I didn't like it, I just didn't.

Now Ubuntu is something else. It was easy to get into, has a great help feature, has a lot of nice add-ons, and it just easy to use. They do a good job of keeping you a restricted user, yet make it easy to preform root level tasks.

I had gentoo I liked it besides all the time to compile everything. I used rehat which I didn't like, fedora core I didn't like... Debian was ok and now im using ubuntu which I like a lot. It was easy as hell to install and everything works

So... what stage tarball did you start with?

I've been using StyleXP for years, my GUI has always been something completely foreign to others who look at it...Vista has nothing I need right now...

For transparency use PowerMenu for free, it does levels of transparency from 10% to 100%, has always on top, minimize to tray and let's you set priority levels for that window, from lowest to realtime...

Oh I also use an app called Xpandesk3 which gives me new desktops top work on at the press of a HotKey....

yes it does.

especially with the Aero feature on.

the pack mimicks some of Vista's visual features. It doesn't quite look the same though.

I'm running a stripped down Vista called 'barely naked'. Runs as fast as XP but looks a tonne better. I've found nothing negative so far.

I've ran Vista Ultimate Full (Bloatware), and my system chokes up badly. I'd guess u'd need atleast 2-3 gigs ram to run that.

This isn't Aero.

Of course not.

Do me a favor; try these two things and let me know what happens.

1) Download and ISO file and burn it to a CD.
2) Rip a music CD to MP3s.

I've burned a few iso's the last couple weeks, works just as XP.

Does ripping cd's mes up or something? I havn't tried that....ill get back

Even better, get Beryl.
Last time I switched our home PC to Linux I almost got castrated, no one in my home can figure out how to work it if it isn't Windows...
