I went to a Texas Hold'em game last night with people my Dad works with up in Hagerstown, MD. This was my first time playing. The buy in was $20 and there were maybe 18-19 people playing.

I probably folded the first 15-20 hands due to having nothing and not wanting to be the first to be kicked out LOL. But about 2 hours into the game I had about 6,000 chips (started with 1,500) so I was doing well.

My first loss- I had pocket aces and there was an ace flipped over during the flop. The guy to my right decided to go all in (about half of my chips) and I thought I was going to oust him. Turns out he had a flush!!!! First D'oh!

About another 2 hours later we're down to about 6 players and I'm holding my own. I've got hearts in my pocket, queen high with 3 hearts showing. I was sure I had it, so I went all in...the other guy had a flush KING high!

It was sooooo much fun though! I'll definately play again and hopefully not be as over confident.

I'm online right now. It's sooooo much fun! I just do the $1 tournaments.

It's like crack. And I LOVE it.

Ya, me too. I play every fri night with some friends. I consider myself a good card player but for some reason I lose my ass off online. I have wasted probably 3 grand on that goddamn site known as parypoker.

3 grand? hahahah u would think you would learn:thumb:

Poker is definetly become an American obsession. There are FEW people that I know that don't like poker (at least regarding to guys). It gets a lot of time on ESPN and other networks on a regular basis. I find myself even watching it, nevermind playing every now and then. I suck, but it's fun. It can catch up to you though..... I only play 5 dollar tournaments now with my friends, which I havn't played in over a now...

Ya my pocket queens got owned by 3,4 spades the other night. damn flushes.

You let her blow that much money TOM. What an understanding husband you must be. I think it might be time for you to open your control panel, go to add or remove programs and remove party poker.

Yes I'm an idiot. I break down and put money in for her when 3-4 days of no sex goes by. To bad I'm an honey fucker or she wouldn't have anything to hold over my head. The biggest problem is when i get to drinking. I put it in so she's right along side of me and i have someone to talk to. Maybe I should use the add or remove program to remove my beer usage. :thumb:

Jesus Christ man!!! You should be shot for saying something like that.

I dont play poker, but I do play the over the counter market. That is my Vegas. I made a couple months salary last week. I may have an opportunity at a double return tomorow, either way I already payed for my motorcycle.

Won 240$ in an ultra turbo other day(1st place)

I deposited $100 about 3 years ago. Now my account has just under $3k and I've withdrawn about $5k over the last few years. If you are losing on these sites, you really need to take some time out and study a few books and ask a lot of questions on twoplustwo.com or unitedpokerforum.com

I would highly recommend reading:

Winning Low Limit Hold'Em - Lee Jones
The Theory of Poker - Sklansky
Small Stakes Hold'Em - Ed Miller / Sklansky / Malmuth

For tournament play... Harrington on Hold'Em (both volumes) is a must read

Super System is okay but it covers a very broad range of types of poker and never gets into the detail that the others ones do.

Phil Hellmuth's Play Poker Like the Pros is easy the worst poker book in print. The advice is horrible in it.

Hold'Em Poker for Advanced Players by Sklansky is a great book but the techniques in it are very situational and you must really have a good grasp on everything in those other books mentioned (meaning you are already a winning player)... This book is better for play at a $10/20 blind level against good players... players that are capable of folding.

Also for internet play... www.pokertracker.com is a great tool to find out stats and trends in your own play as well as keeping a database on your opponents.

Very interesting. If it was me I'd take your advice. I have been playing poker for uears and that's all i play when in vegas. I do good and i'm a good player. My wife has been playing for 18 months and thinks she's the greatest. She plays stupid when I have watched her play. But have you ever tried to tell a philippino gal anything. You can't. There born gamblers on a losing streak. They win one game and there the king of that game. They then think they know everything. I spent $64 last year on 2 books for her to read and they still set in her closet.

Just what I said

My wife has been playing since 11am today straight through without a break. It is 7:35 pm. She won back the money i deposited and i cashed that back out and left her with a balanced. Since then I watched her lose 3 games at $20 each in less then 15 minutes. So I told her she needs a break. Told her to get up get some coffe or a bite to eat. She said no and i told her if she didn't, I would turn off both computers. She then turned her's off and said I don't need a break and walk into the bedroom and slammed the door.

When it comes to the asia race, I'm sorry they are not going to listen when it comes to gambling.

In the city I used to live in, it was easily over 95% asians in the casino. I went to get something to eat with a friend, who is... asian.

I have only lost one time playing Texas Hold'em
Great game

Sorry, Mr. Rules.

True, I have only played five times.....and don't plan to play more than 2-3 times a year.

Then unless you've played with extremely stupid and unlucky amatuers, you've lost. Experience is definately a prerequisite for being successful at Texas Hold'em.

Then you probably havent played all that often. Granted you may be a skilled player, but poker is a zero sum game, so even though you may have an edge, theres still luck involved.

Edit: sorry, didnt read above posts.
