Hi all!
I'm happy to be here. I am commited to weight training & spinning classes at my gym as well as other forms of cardio. I've been weight training and working on my cardio endurance for a little over 3 years now.
My question at this time is this...
I'm having surgery and will be restricted from any activities that will raise my heart rate for at least 3 weeks. I have worked my arse off to get the muscle definition I have now. Is there anything I can do while recovering that will help me maintain my muscle? I know I'm going to drop at least 5 pounds and I do not want it to all be muscle. Someone had mentioned static exercises???
Thanks in advance and I look forward to being a part of this community!

help for your problem

Hey becaboo

I've got a very interesting study that applies to your situation.

"Muscle atrophy was 32 percent lower in rats that had been treated with heat therapy before the muscles were made inactive compared with muscles that were not treated but also were made inactive." February 2000. Journal of Applied Physiology. Hisashi Naito; Juntendo University, Japan. Scott Powers, University of Flordia.

Obviously it would be only part of an overall approach you will develope, but you should seriously consider heat therapy during your down time, to preserve the muscle.

hope this helps www.geocities.com/researchbasedbodybuilding

I had a breast lift with augmentation last November and I need a revision. Increasing your heart rate can cause you to bleed internally in the operative area post op. Sorry if this is too much info?!?!? :p

No I was just wondering if you would also have an injury do to the operation that might also be aggravated by working out.

my advise is just heal......forget the gym, better to heal well then to worry about a few lbs you might lose

i had shoulder surgery after tearin all that holds it on ur body n a wrestling meet. i kno all bout lkoosin muscle after surgery. n i really let it get me down. but now im better again. i had surgery 8 months ago. i healed. did my therapy. and worked back into the gym. now im bigger than i was and making incredible gains lately. dont get discouraged!!!! heat therapy is good and so is the electrolises. the muscle stimulation machines they use. it helped me ALOT. i started doin that and could see muscle coming back quickly. it will take a while to get back to wear ur at, and u wont notice that ur back to ur old self till ur like me and u get better thanu were b4. dont worry bout loosing muscle. i had surgery right through the muscle tissue and came back from it and now lookin into competing again. good luck and welcome to IM.
