non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and with steriod.. what's different ??

non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, or NSAID and common anti-inflammatory..

which one is better?

I have problem with my left wrist. I think tendon or anchiles is inflame for 3 months until now. I do take many many anti-inflammatory for a short period... but I try many drug...

- Naproxen Sodium (Synflex)
- Diclofenac
- Buprofen
- Isoprofen
- Tinoxicam
- Ketoprofen
etc..

Dose that I take is one tablet per day (according from doctor)

However, I do inject at my wrist once, too. The first week, all pain is gone but once I lift weight (as the same weight I do lift before it's inflame) the pain is came back...

I think now inflamation at my wrist maybe chornic..

Help...

steroidal anti-inflamm. are stronger of course...it has to do with how they block prostaglandin synthesis which is responsible for the inflammatory and pain response.

although they are stronger, they also have a much higher incidence of side effects so i would stick to the NSAIDS or a more natural alternative unless it is absolutely neccessary to use the steroidal anti-inflammatoy meds.

Don't forget that cortisone / prednosone etc (corticosteroids) are all fairly catabolic, wasting protein and storing fat. I would think that localized cortisone injections would be more efficient than the more systemic prednosone / orals. Even the local injects will travel through the body, but it seems you could get away with a lower well placed dose. Just MHO, I'm no doc, but i've read up on and had to use anti inflamatories in the past. Many times 800-1200 mg of motrin (NSAID) works pretty well for simple tendonitis.
