Owner of popular Miami gym arrested over steroid accusations
MIAMI (WSVN) - An owner of a popular Miami gym was arrested, Wednesday morning, for allegedly distributing millions of dollars worth of steroids.
According to sources close to the investigation, Iron Addicts Gym owner Richard Rodriguez was arrested after being accused of selling and distributing a massive amount of steroids at his gym.
During the initial raid by the DEA and U.S. Marshals, Rodriguez was reportedly found at Miami International Airport. He was ready to board a flight headed to Los Angeles, Calif.
His gym, located at 31 N.E. 17th St., was shut down by the Drug Enforcement Administration, as DEA agents will be investigating the gym for several days. A sign on the entrance read, ?United States Marshal NO Trespassing.?
Jerome Turner is a gym member and said the gym is well-known in the community. ?You see it on YouTube, man,? he said. ?It?s a popular gym. A lot of people in the community came here to work out.?
Rodriguez?s cars, a McLaren and white Porsche, were seen being towed away from his condo.
Officials have not announced formal charges for Rodriguez, nor arrests for anyone else involved in the steroid distribution. However, officials said, the investigation may involve connections in other states.
The connection to the gym and the investigation remains unknown. ?Everybody was cool,? said Turner. ?The owner was cool. I never had an issue with it.?
U.S. Marshals said they will also seize all of the gym equipment.
