If you are worried about protein before your workout, eat a handfull of salt-free peanuts before hand. This will be enough to get you through the workout. After your workout you can then have a normal protein shake. The NO should be taken roughly 30-35 mintes before your workout to get into your system.
I usually eat a some simple carbs before I work out like mulched oats or something along with my NO. Simple carbs (a very small amount) are good for pre workout because of the energy (obviously) and having something like that in your stomach helps dull the distress NO drinks give your stomach when you drink them alone.
Fast digesting protein (whey) is better post workout because that's when your body needs broken down amino strands to be used in the muscle repair process. Just have it about 20 minutes or so after you work out.
This isn't a blanket thing, just some good general advice. Tweak it and see what works best for you.
