Well right now I'm trying to build a little muscle but mostly trying to get the fat off of me. So after I work with weights should I still drink a protein shake or am I wasting my $$?:p

Personally it shouldn't matter that musch....just make sure to have some protein and carbs...both solid food and whey are fine....main difference is the absorption rates...whey aminos inter the bloodstream very quickly vs solid food takes quite a while to be broken down and digested.

Ok shouldn't I stay away from carbs as much as possible? I thought that was the plan for getting the fat off?

Low carb is one way to reduce fat, it is not the only way. Lately carbs are getting this really bad rap because of keto diets, but it depends on what your carb sources are and the rest of your diet, e.g. fats.

Either way, what does carbs have to do with your question about protein after your work-out?

Just to let you know your body craves carbs post-work-out and it will use them to replenish glycogen stores, doubtful that it will store any as fat.

Even if your simply trying to keep what muscle you do have, you need protein. Bank on getting it every 3 hours, however you figure on doing that is up to you, either powder or otherwise.

"ither way, what does carbs have to do with your question about protein after your work-out?"

Because Fit Freak said this "Personally it shouldn't matter that musch....just make sure to have some protein and carbs..."

yes, and post work-out it is more important than any other time, a whey protein shake being best within the first 30 minutes post-work-out to ensure quick absorption, then within the next 30-60 minutes a meal consisting of protein and carbs, then within 2 hours another protein shake, preferably one with slower absobing proteins like casein.
