No, from the publication of Hiu Yee Kwan that appeared in Scientific Reports in 2017, you cannot infer that supplementation with Schisandra chinensis will help fitness and physique athletes to get rid off their subcutaneous fat reserves. But Kwan's study will undoubtedly inspire supplement developers. What would happen if you combined schisandrin-B, an active substance in schisandra, with caffeine?[FONT=&quot]

In vitro study
Kwan exposed 3T3-L1 fat cells to different concentrations of schisandrin-B, and found that at the highest concentrations of schisandrin-B, the vitality of the fat cells decreased. At lower concentrations, which didn't seem to harm the fat cells, schisandrin-B reduced the amount of fat stored in the cells.

In the fat cells, schisandrin-B did not increase the total amount of the hormone HSL, but schisandrin-B did increase the activity of the hormone. HSL plays a key role in the release of fatty acids from fat cells. HSL responds to ACTH and adrenaline, among other things.

Animal study
Kwan injected diet-induced obese mice subcutaneously with schisandrin-B for 5 days. If the mice had been humans, they would have gained 0.03 grams per kilogram of body weight daily. Don't try this at home, folks.

The test animals lost fat.

After the experiment, analyzes of adipose tissues showed that schisandrin-B in the subcutaneous fat had increased the activity of HSL.Conclusion
"Our data shed light on the potential therapeutic use of schisandrin-B or Schisandra chinensis seed containing schisandrin-B for reducing obesity and hence the obesity-related comorbid conditions", writes Kwan.

Schisandra chinensis is interesting stuff. More coming soon.
