Sunlight protects against coronavirus infection, vitamin D supplements help prevent hospital admission
Vitamin D protects against covid, this low-tech website reported a number of times. The two best sources of vitamin D are sunlight and supplements. Sunlight exposure reduces the chance of hospitalization for covid, and vitamin supplements reduce the chance of getting covid, according to an American study soon to be published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutritition.

Harvard epidemiologists tracked 39,315 health workers from March 2020 to March 2021. During that time, 1768 of them contracted covid, which equates to 4.5 percent. Results
Based on the study participants' diet, their intake of vitamin D supplements and the amount of UVA and UVB light recently measured in their place of residence, the researchers calculated the vitamin D level [predicted circulating 25(OH)D level] of the study participants. The researchers divided the study participants into five equally sized groups [quintiles] based on their predicted circulating 25(OH)D level.
The quintile with the highest vitamin D level was 24 percent less likely to be infected with SAR-CoV2 than the study participants in the quintile with the lowest vitamin D level.
Supplementation with more than 400 IU of vitamin D3 per day reduced the chance of hospitalization.
The researchers also looked separately at the amount of UVA and UVB light in the region of the study participants, and on this basis divided the study participants into 4 equally sized groups [quartiles].
The study participants in the quartile with the most UVA and UVB light were 24 percent less likely to be infected with SAR-CoV2 than the study participants in the quartile with the least amount of UVA and UVB light.
