I start my new job at Radio Shack on Monday and a big part of my job will be selling cell phones.

I'm cell phone retarded. I just got my first phone less than 2 years ago and I'm 33. Plus the only text I've ever sent was to my wife and all it said was "OK".

Anyway, I suck at cell phones. I guess they're pretty much all the same. They all have cameras and texting ability. Some are touch screens, some are not. I guess it's just the varying plans that are the real difference. And of those plans, there's always the prepaids.

What are good points to bring up to sell a phone? I can sell laptops, cameras and GPS' in my sleep. The phones are where I'll struggle.

What was it about your phone that got you to buy it? Sell me on it too.

I have the Motorola Crush. I really wanted a touch screen, but did not want internet on my phone. The Crush is the only touch screen phone from my provider (US Cellular) that does not have a data/internet plan.

Your turn.

I have an Iphone because someone rich I know gave me their's when the 3g came out, I then received the 3g when 3gs came and now I got the 4 because it was only $200 for the upgrade and someone gave me their extra reserve ticket so I took advantage of the opportunity.....only reason, if I had to buy a phone straight up for the full price I'd do some serious shopping and review reading......

Droid. All you need to know. It'll do just about everything but wipe your ass. That could even be taken care of by wrapping it in toilet paper and taking a swipe at the butt nuggets.

Every person born should be issued a Droid at birth.

As PC savvy as you are, I'm surprised. I thought anything electronic would be your bag.

Features. Features. Selling something is hard. You have to know every single feature each of the products offer.

I have an iPhone 3G. I bought this one because it was the real deal during 2008. lol. I'm buying the iPhone 4 later this year.

I'm assuming most people walk in to a store and pretty much know what they want/know what features are important. Most of the popular phones like Droid and the iPhone will sell themselves, I just have to be savvy on what plans go with what phone.

But yeah, I hear that knowing a lot about computers and nothing about cell phones is kind of like an oxymoron

If you want to be a successful salesman, don't sell the features. you sell the benefits that are derived from the feature.

Like sell the internet, not the ability to use it from the phone?

THIS!

I'll add to that one the ability to compare the features to other phones. I have observed that most buyers come to the store knowing only the features of one phone and then they end up asking "What other phones do you have? What are the differences?"

That's why it's better to know and as much as possible have tested out (or just researched) the different advantages and disadvantages of similar features present on every phone.
