I was given the privledge of going to see the UT game this weekend. I was amazed at what a real college football town is like. There I was amid 106 thousand orange shirts watching and rumbling and shouting during that whole game. What a day it was!

I learned something that day too during the struggle that UT was having trying to get the ball to the goal.

It was my own struggles on a day to day basis with trying to "score" a touchdown.

I looked at that field and at first when you are there you think to yourself "wow...100 yards doesnt seem that far!"

Similar to what many people are faced with today. They think "aww...100 pounds isnt that much...I have time"

The UT Volunteers took to the field and I noticed that each play they made was either a success or a failure...they had a strategy and followed a game plan. They had coach and fans and they also had opposition.

The opposition doesnt want you to score...hell the opposistion is about the most greediest sons of bitches you ever met. They arent about "fair play" they want you to lose at every turn. Bad.

They are the Nay Sayers...the Media..advertising...scoundrals and liars....I dont need to mention them since every one has played against them at one time or another.

In my struggles to lose my weight and score one for the "Trinsdad house" I related alot of what they were doing play by play with how my personal struggles have been.

I saw, as I said earlier, how it looked so much easier than it really is, but that if I took it "10 yards" at a time I might make my goal.

So, I took off down the field and let the ball fly...1st down...then another...then another...and then..I lost the ball..and I panicked and everything I worked so hard for was lost.

I watched UT trade sides and became defensive. There team kept the opposition from gaining ground while they (the offense) team re-grouped with the coach and made plans.

I saw that my life was like that game...that the game isnt over with one turn over of the ball. That my defenses have to be as strong as my offense. That on the days you lose the ball...you dont quit the game...you get back in and you fight!

I watch the UT team come back in anmake solid consistent plays and gain more ground towards that goal. They were doing it...and the croud was cheering them on even louder than before.

I saw that it was much easier if everything went according to plan to move the ball down the field until they got really close to the goal. Then I noticed it was much harder.

I saw that, that was going to be my future. That I have the ball this time (again)..and I am making my way down the field. Hell, anyone who is trying to get their body to give up fat knows what this is like.

I gain ground...I lose ground...but I dont give up the ball...and I dont lose my focus and I make my downs. I know that I may have to turn the ball over sometimes...thats life...but thats but thats when my defense takes over and I keep myself from losing too much ground to the opposition.

I also know that the closer I get to my "touch Down" the harder it will be to "put the ball in"..life I think is geting me ready for that day...one down at a time.

I have a personal request. Do some random act of kindness today. If you see a overweight person in the gym....congradulate them on getting involved.

You know...things really dont change much from being a child in school to being an adult. Peers will always have many things that you just cant seem to grasp. Most fat folks live day to day in fear, ridicule and shame which only amount to even more pain.

Intimidated by the vibrant...they confide themselves to a personal hell...of losing the ball so many times they are afraid to get back in the game. Please lead the way for them. By doing that...you not only help improve them...you improve yourself as well....

And isnt that what the game is really all about?

Great post Trinsdad. I do talk to all around me at the gym. If they are there, they're doing better than someone who isn't.

I have only been back in the gym for 5 weeks now and I love the words of encouragement i get from the regulars who see me in there, not giving up. I too pass the words on!
