TRON: LEGACY Sequel Could Begin Shooting In 2014 According To Bruce Boxleitner
According to Bruce Boxleitner (Tron himself), the sequel will be a direct continuation and will feature more screen-time for Tron.

Simply put, most people were not happy with Tron: Legacy. For the move to have the titular characters name, his actual presence in the film was very minimal. No, "rogue-corrupted-program" Tron does not count. When asked if a sequel to Tron: Legacy would feature more Tron, Boxleitner gave a definited "Yes," and also said that the movie would be a direct continuation. "The last movie didn't end," he said. "It actually started the next movie and then went to black," said Boxleitner.
The film earned $400 million at the global box office on a $170 million dollar budget*[I know, doesn't include marketing, let's just all be aware of it but not address it] which is impressive but not exactly what the folks at Disney had hoped for as they were expecting numbers similar to Avatar.
Still a sequel is "[Is] in the works," says an optimistic Boxleitner. "Anything could happen, but all I can say is, it's in its formative stages. [Joseph] Kosinski, who is slated for it, he's shooting another movie now, and then they'll get around to doing that. I think somewhere around 2014, maybe. I'm talking way out of school here, but they can't shoot me because I'm Tron."
Kosinski is currently set to direct Tom Cruise in Oblivion for Universal Pictures which is set to be released on July 19, 2013. Assuming Boxleitner is inferring that Tron:Legacy will begin production once that film hits theaters.
Now I must admit Tron:Legacy was a huge letdown for the media, fans and even Disney. The film turned a profit but nowhere near what anyone expected or hoped for and it was critically panned across the board. Thanks to all the hype and the fantastic music from Daft Punk in the trailers, I was extremely ecstatic to see the film and even enjoyed it the first time, even though my fellow moviegoers thought I was crazy and trashed the film. Upon a second viewing, I discovered they were actually dead-on and I let my heightened anticipation cloud my usually sharp critical-assessment skills. The film stunk, despite fine performances from the cast, great visuals and a killer sound track. The problem, a plot that made absolutely no sense at all and made you feel nothing for any of the characters. Thankfully, the original scriptwriters have gone on to television [where they belong] and David DiGilio was hired to write the sequel.....David DiGilio? Really? The man responsible for Eight Below. Maybe I'm wrong and we'll get a better script for the sequel but that resume sure doesn't inspire confidence.
