actually more so the coding though...

I have always done shotty work on websites, I can sometimes work out a decent design that I like and the such, but I never learned how to properly code a layered website...

usually Id just design the entire website in Photoshop, and slice it up into smaller images, and it would load incredibly slow....so imagine a website that you could see each part of the website load like it were an image...

I want to learn to do it RIGHT, or at least a good alternative to what I have been doing...

I have Photoshop and the Macromedia MX suite from 2004, including Dreamweaver

I know the basics of Dreamweaver, but I do not know it well enough to align everything correctly...

you can get all sorts of web design pdf books here

Info-Hut

or there are currently 51 available here

BestFile.NET: Web Design

everything i've gotten here is clean, software etc.

If you want to learn to do it right then you gotta learn to code HTML by hand in a text editor <head></head> ; <body></body> ;
<a href="http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/">

Once you get the basics and how to lay out tables and cells you can
line up your images perfectly within those tables....of course I always
find that checking the webpage out in multiple browsers will show you that
it takes a lot of proper coding to get a page that will look the same
across different platforms...
