Medicare Supplemental Insurance, or Medigap, helps you pay for some of the out-of-pocket costs that are not covered in the Medicare Part A and Part B plans. These plans are offered by private insurance companies and may vary depending on your location or the state you reside.

First of all, understand the type of Medicare Insurance you already have so that it helps you figure out the best Medicare supplement plan.

While opting for Medicare supplement insurance, look for the following covered services:

  1. Part A and Part B deductibles
  2. Co-pays and co-insurance
  3. Provider excess charges
  4. An additional 365 days of hospital care during your lifetime, beyond your Medicare lifetime reserve days
  5. First 3 pints of Blood Transfusions
  6. Foreign Travel Emergencies

What is not covered by Medicare supplement insurance is,

  1. Long-term care
  2. Routine Eye exams or eyeglasses
  3. Routine hearing tests or hearing aids
  4. Routine dental exams, cleaning or x-rays
  5. Private duty nursing
  6. Days in a skilled nursing facility beyond the 100 days covered by Part A

However, the federal government has standardized ten plans that are labeled as A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M and N offering the same benefits as one another.
Thanks!
