I think Maniclion got it right, actually. Most successful, most recognized and most popular sports franchise on the planet. Yankee brand is the biggest in all of sports.

Because people always get really religious in jail - it's called jailhouse religion, which consist of getting super religious while in jail/prison and then dropping it as soon as you get out.
