what kind of democracy is that? what if someone like me who hates the open borders, hippy peace loving side of liberals and the hardcore brain dead christian side of republicans. theres noone else to vote for there are atleast 7 parties in NZ that are given prettty much equal publicity and chance to get votes as with most other western countries

Uh, lets see here. In the 2004 presidential election there were nominations from the Republican Party, Democrapic Party, Independent (Reform) Party, Libertarian Party, Constitution Party and Green Party. Thats not two.

only parties i ever hear anything about is democratic and repubulican. Even on those month long lead up to elections

It really does seem that way, but there are more...Those two are just the dominating and very much most popular....

It was only a 2 party system until 1971. Then atleast some people saw the fuck up having two extremes was. Unfortunately most people who vote are too retarded to make a change, and most candidates in these second tier parties suck ass.

Because that is just how our political system has evolved over the years. It is like asking why is the sun yellow, or why does agressor ask dumb questions. There really is no good insightful answer,

Haha, I love seeing quotes like this. Especially since it's the popular vote that wins a presidential election, not the electoral college. There have been three presidents to lose the popular vote but win the electoral vote. Dubya is one of them.

It prevents situations like we used to have in Canada.

40% of the country voted liberal.
30% voted Reform (right wing party)
30% voted Progressive Conservative (semi-right wing party)

So even though 60% of the country wanted a right wing government, the liberals ruled. It was only recently that the right wing parties merged and finally got voted in.

Its kinda like this in the UK - Labour and the Tories - My guess is its best to vote for the one thats closest to your ideals - and live with the rest

Nader versus Bush. Genius versus Idiot. We'd rather have the rich idiot in power.

It's cute how you all think your vote in the presidential election influences the actual outcome. It's like watching one of those commercials where they show kids from every different ethnic group on earth saying something stupid like "I'm the future" when you know in your mind that most of them won't amount to shit.

:haha:

On a serious note, I hate how people vote on a party rather than individualistic ideas.

America is a Republic, not a Democracy...get your facts straight son.

LMAO.............I think you should get yours right before calling someone else wrong. It is a Democratic Republic

It is a Republic.....look it up...start here.

You could say since 1913 Amecica is considered democratic in form, as well as being a republic....But that debate should be another thread.

;) LMAO

Maybe Democratic Republic does apply

Democratic Republic - Tends to be used by countries who have a particular desire to emphasize their claim to be democratic; these are typically Communist states and/or ex-colonies. Examples include the German Democratic Republic (no longer in existence) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

HAHAHA

Or you could just give 40% representation to one party, and 30% each to the two others...
