The 11mm driver version has the aluminum foil cord... the 9's have a heavy rubber. It is heavier than your standard headphone cord.

sox- I just went to radioshack last weekend and got this pair of sony's for 30 bucks...they're excellent so far...definitely great value after looking at what the apple store had to offer!

But please dont keep it too loud, especially when you are running outside. Bugs me when I run up behind and pass someone and they get surpsied because they didnt hear me coming.

I'm in my own little world at the gym, I don't want to hear anybody else's shit.

OK so my sony phones have a short in the plug, and sound cuts out sometimes...
I went and bought these Nike phones:

The fit isn't quite the same... No big deal...
I think the sound quality is a bit better (more bass'y)(than my 6+yo Sony's)

But they pick up on recording differences BIG TIME, and its pretty annoying.

EX: I have some old Megadeth tunes in my ipod, and some old metallica tunes... All Megadeths albums have been remastered so the volume is louder... I'm constantly having to adjust the volume on my Ipod now, almost every song.

I'm thinking of going and getting a replacement set of Sony's to see if
it makes a difference.

:geewhiz:

You honestly where those things while working out?

Why not just throw a boom box on your shoulder?

They are too expensive, but I've already broken my original Ipod headphones as well as the second pair I bought for $30 just a couple of months ago.

If these will for years, wouldn't it be wise to shell out the extra dough?
those little white buds are 30 bucks? Get the hell outta here!

I went through dozens of headphones before I found the Sony's, mine still work great almost 11 years later, but I always run them under my shirt so they won't snag......I use them almost every night with my Iphone for Pre-Bedtime music, still fall asleep with them on and they haven't broken.....I think they might set a record, although my dad had an ancient pair of those Helicopter Pilot Style headphones since the 70's and I still used them while practicing guitar in the 90's until I bought a set of Studio phones.....

Funny you should mention that. I do use a "boom box" @ the gym. I strap it to my back like a backpack. I have the volume turned up and sometimes when I move too much, the headphone jack comes loose. It scares the hell out of everybody when "Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five" come blasting out! :ohyeah:

Dont push me, cause Im close to the edge
Im trying not to loose my head
Its like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder
How I keep from going under

OK...
So I broke down and bought a new set of SONY phones...
They didnt have an exact match for my old phones,
but I got these folding jobs:

I knew the problem wasnt with my IPOD, because
other phones and buds seemed to work fine.

On closer examination of the old pair of phones,
I found rings of crud on the plug...

This is a bad picture, but you get the idea...
Later, I will scrub the metal down or polish lightly
and I bet they work perfectly as a backup set.

The new phones sound better than the old,
and DO NOT have the weird volume issue that the NIKE pair did.

WIN - WIN... (cost of new phones and happiness = $21)

Tried to polish with emery cloth...
Got off all the black crud, and they still dont work.

:sob:

I've gone through 3 of these in the past 5 years. Love the bass on them and they mask the outside noise quite well. Plus the wire is encased in cloth. No tangles.

Philips SBC HS520 - headphones - Behind-the-neck, Binaural

I highly recommend these. I've had the same pair for 3 years so far and they still work perfectly. I've snagged them countless times and its got this elastic thing that protects the cable from being torn out, you can see it in the picture. The cable is also like this fabric so its a lot stronger than a normal headphone cable.

the only thing wrong with mine is that the cushion on the back is getting worn down from the obnoxious amount of time i've spent wearing them :p
