audio delay on plasma tv

I've got a 42" Hitachi Plasma television, which I love, but sometimes when I watch dvd's the sound doesn't match up with the lips. I feel like I'm watching foriegn porn that's been dubbed (Or maybe that's because my wife is watching Sex and the City right now). Anyone else deal with this?

You're going through a system rt now or straight out with the plasma's speakers?

through my surround sound system. It's a home theater in a box deal.

try hooking up the dvd to your plasma speakers. Then you'll know if it's your dvd player or if it's your receiver.

Ahhh I seeeee that explains it. Have you had this system installed by someone who knows what's up or did you just connect it up yourself?

Well, My buddy set it up for me and it works fine when just watching television in surround sound but only sometimes with the DVDs. There's only three or four wires to hook up...I think. Viet, my receiver is my dvd player. It's a Sony Dream Machine theater in a box.

if it's only sometimes with DVD's, then it can't be the wiring.

are you using store bought DVD's or computer burned discs?

if they are store bought DVD's then something must be wrong with the player. If they are burned DVD's then it could be something with the encoding. AV sync is pretty common with the massive amount of codecs available.

I notice it the most when my wife watches her Sex and the City crap. Not nearly as much with newer DVDs

I often have to use the audio tools on VLC to get the a/v on down loaded movies to play in sync ... good thought viet_jon. My reasons about calling sony are that it sounds like the tech stuff is a little outta the area of what MeatZatk is used too. MeatZatk Sony can walk you through the tests to see that everything is what it should be ... but the audio coding outta sync is a good call.

I had the same problem, lowering the plasma"s speaker volume while increasing the surroud system"s solved it for me...
