There doesn't seem to be any good political threads going on right now, and it's a subject I've become increasingly interested in lately.

As for me, I'm one of the many Ron Paul supporters. I really believe in his message and believe that if he is true to his word (and if he gets elected), then he just might be able to reverse some of the damage that is being done to this country by our current administration.

Anyone else?

Hank Rollins for President!

"We could light bags of dog doo on fire on Hillary Clinton's doorstep, ring the buzzer and run like hell." H. Rollins

He would be a good choice, but I'll be happy so long as its a Republican that wins it.

Why do you care about the party of the candidate so much?

I would think its more important to focus on the ideas that a candidate embodies, not the side of the corrupt political game that he is forced to join.

Who the hell knows. Our system is fucked up.

I've got very little faith in any political figure these days, pretty sad, but that's the way it is. I'll still vote but I haven't done much research on the candidates thus far.

What's Ron Pauls message? Isn't that the guy that sings "We be Burnin" and "Give me a Light"?

I have come to the conclusion that politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians.
Author: Charles De Gaulle ;)

Ron Paul is a constitutionalist which basically means he believes in restoring our country to the core values held by the founding fathers. That includes limited government, limited taxation, and keeping our noses out of other country's business. We talk with other countries, we trade with other countries, but we do not force our wills on them.

Another important point that I like about Ron Paul is that his followers and support mostly spawns from the internet and word of mouth. Large corporations really haven't taken an interest in sponsoring him, so his ideas and ambitions remain untainted by the corporate corruption that is present in nearly every other candidate.

On a side note since I know someone will bring this argument up, following the constitution doesn't mean specifically following the constitution; obviously some of the statutes need to be modified to fit current times. It's the spirit and ideals behind the constitution that we need to return to, not necessarily the text of it.

Click here for anyone interested in learning more about him.

I'm rooting for Fred Thompson. He looks to be exactly the candidate I was hoping the Republicans would come up with. The rest of the red candidates are no good.

A Thompson-Guliani ticket would be be the best chance to defeat the inevitable Hitlery-Obama one.

my view is that we should just elect willie nelson.

I like Paul best among the republican candidates. He will not, however, win the Republican nomination.

Though I don't have strong (positive) feelings about any of the candidates, Barak Obama is my personal favorite (though I think Bill Richardson is most well qualified)

Ah yes...Thompson...Divorced, lawyer, holywood elite. All the things the republican base loves.

Pair him up with a twice divorced, philandering cross dresser....that's a sure winner.

Agreed when did it start being being about liberal and conservative and stopped being about right and wrong??

Not sure if he is official or not at this point, but I would have to throw my support to Fred Thompson.

Fred Thompson is a Federalist. Much better than any of the Republican and Democrat candidates.

Thompson '08!

Here is Thompson's stance on concealed carry:

Signs of Intelligence?

By Fred Thompson

One of the things that's got to be going through a lot of peoples' minds now is how one man with two handguns, that he had to reload time and time again, could go from classroom to classroom on the Virginia Tech campus without being stopped. Much of the answer can be found in policies put in place by the university itself.

He's spot on with this article. However, I heard his speech today and he said "I am for free markets, free people and pro life." So, he believes in free people but no so free they have the right to control their own body?

As usual, I can't vote for a person who is pro 2A yet another hypocrite who believes in "freedom" but not those freedoms he does not personally agree with. Sorry, selective freedom does not work for me.

Same old crap..

The party that TRULY wants to get back to what the Founders wrote and intended for this country are the Libertarians, who have a snow ball chance in hell of getting elected to a high office, but they are as close as we get to living as the Founders intended..

Then your reading skills aint to sharp my friend as my very comments in this thread were about abortion rights vs guns per se, though I didn't see any reason not to include his stance on guns (the good part) in addition to his stance on abortion (the bad part) as my pro and con of Thompson.

Don't worry, I have written more on topic stuff about all things BB.ing than you or anyone who posts to this forum, though I may not have done it on this forum:

BrinkZone.com - The Final Frontier in Bodybuilding, Health & Fitness

And a simple Google search on yours truly:

will brink - Google Search

Granted, guns and the right of self defense/human rights are personal interest for me....:D

hahah its cool man, you dont have to prove anything to me, just taking notes on who not to talk shit to because they have guns, or bigger "guns"(arms) than me hahah so basically 90% of the board :roflmao:

I could never vote for Fred Thompson, he is far too hypocritical for me. I was reviewing his views and one in the very beginning before I stopped stood out (stopped right there and then). He voted yes to amend the constitution to make flag burning illegal, and I just can't support that.

I might think and do think that anyone burning a flag is a douchebag, but it is still their right to express themselves however they see fit provided it does not put other people in danger. "Freedom of speech" is all-inclusive, it does not just mean freedom to speak and think only pre-approved things.

As a great man once said, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it."

Have some faith, Ron Paul actually has an extremely good shot at the presidency I think, and he holds many libertarian views.

Well heck, big arms don't make a tough guy. Take me for example, i'm a big pussy.

Isn't that the kind of thinking that got us into this mess?

The founding fathers believed that there are certain unalienable rights bestowed upon us by our Creator, among them Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Without life, you don't have liberty, and you certainly can't pursue happiness. "Control of your body" is a lame substitute for "murder your unborn children." It's very saddening, but not surprising, the way people attempt to dehumanize the unique human life that is ended in an abortion.

If that's your basis for who you vote for, you probably won't be voting for anyone anytime soon. These are politicians we're talking about here ;)

It's the reason I am going for Ron Paul - he most definitely has the best credibility out of any of the candidates with a voting record to back it up, and he seems to truly believe in the restoration of the constitution which is something I would be ecstatic about.

Obviously I disagree with RP on some of his ideas - I think a gold/silver based monetary system is a terrible idea in today's society among other things, although anything is better than our current debt based money. I am voting for RP because he as a person has the core beliefs and rationale to make excellent decisions for this country in the majority of issues.

I'd just like to throw out there that I absolutely fucking despise anyone who votes or refuses to vote for a person based purely on the party they belong to rather than the ideals and credibility of the candidates themselves. Stop being fucking sheep and start thinking for yourselves, it's this two party partisan bullshit that ran this country into the gutter, and unless people rise up above it, I can't see America ever being restored to what it should be.

I would think its more important to focus on the ideas that a candidate embodies, not the side of the corrupt political game that he is forced to join.
