GOP Senator linked to prostitute

Who cares. More media bullshit so one party can say the other party sux. This entire thread is all about "We are the shit while you guys suck" :hmmm: ...

This is another example personal identity being committed more to a political party than the national perspective. It's obvious that some people are more of a Republican or a Democrat than an American.

what do you want? republicans to say what he did was wrong? hey what he did was wrong. yet the article you posted said these things happened before he went in office. are you going to sit here and judge his repentence? its usually the ones who cry the most have the most to hide. and it seems your crying quite a bit kbm.

could you be affraid of the 08 election like every other die hard bloody democrat? your only real candidate is o'bama, but he is too young and fresh, so like edwards in '04 your going to waste him early and make him a VP candidate next to.........hillary clinton? she polarizes america more than bush does. good luck with her running as your candidate. she doesnt even appeal to your centrist democrats. so you put her up against mitt romney or thomson. my guess is thomson. your going to push democrats into voting for the guy. the nixon connection with him? big deal. blows over way too early. it hit the headlines before he really officially said he was in. it was 30 + years ago and no one cares.

I want him to resign - just like he said people who commit infidelity should do. Is it too much to ask a man, particularly one who has spent his congressional career being holier-than-thou, to keep his word?

No, the whole thread is about another great American "leader" who campaigned specifically on a platform to "defend traditional marriage" who committed adultery, apparently sought the services of an escort, and then thought the public didn't need to know about the hypocrisy when he was running for even higher office.

It's another example of an ELECTED OFFICIAL being more committed to a political party than the national perspective. I really don't give a rat's ass about whether a blowhard is Republican or Democrat, but if they campaign claiming they are all about morality knowing they've already pulled this shit, they don't get a free pass.

I sure as hell didn't tell the man to run on a wingnut, Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell/Christian Coalition platform.

Rinse and repeat.

Your party dedication has your panties tied in a wad so tight you can't see straight. When you start posting about the screwups from BOTH parties instead of just the one you don't like then your line "I really don't give a rat's ass about whether a blowhard is Republican or Democrat, but if they campaign claiming they are all about morality knowing they've already pulled this shit, they don't get a free pass" will come off more sincere. Until then you are just bowing down to the party line and tossing crap at the other guys.

Vitter is in the news because of his own actions. The announcement yesterday, following the publication of the phone numbers. Vitter's quotes don't come from the Democratic National Committee, they come from his own campaign history, his own web site, coverage over those years from local and national media. Out of his own mouth.

If it makes you feel a little better, let's take this quote from a Louisiana Republican official:

BATON ROUGE ??? In the wake of U.S. Sen. David Vitter???s apology after his phone number turned up in an escort service's call list, a member of the Republican State Central Committee called for him to resign.

Vincent Bruno of Kenner said today that Vitter should resign ???for his own good, the good of the party and the good of his family.??? If he doesn???t resign, Vitter should ???join the Democratic Party where they think that kind of behavior is OK.???

Bruno said Vitter???s actions violate the Republican Party???s ???Family Values??? stance but he doesn???t expect the party leadership to do anything about it. ???We had David Duke and couldn???t do anything about it.???

???They think more of the party than the right thing to do,??? he said. ???If they???re not going to enforce family values, they ought to take it out of the vocabulary.

It was David Vitter who said:

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) first got his start in Congress after replacing former Rep. Bob Livingston (R-LA), who ???abruptly resigned after disclosures of numerous affairs??? in 1998. At the time, Vitter argued that an extramarital affair was grounds for resignation:

???I think Livingston???s stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess,??? he said. [Atlanta Journal and Constitution, 12/20/98]

Six months after Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana and the Gulf Coast and the area was still crying out for federal assistance, Vitter's concern for the federal marriage amendment outweighed the tens of thousands of homeless in his own state: "I don't believe there's any issue that's more important than this one," said Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican.

The dude stuck his own foot in his own shit.

Funny though.... You didn't seem to think that this sort of indiscretion was grounds for Bill Clinton to resign.

If you want to enforce this standard on one then you should enforce this standard on all.

I have absolutely no problem with that.

Really no-one cares

Does that piss you off? Seriously, no-one shives a git. Why blather on about who he railed when, in the big scheme of things, not one single person gives a damn? Is he taking bribes to sway the rezoning of some piece of land so one of his buddies can rake in on the land deal? Is he pushing a bill through that would create a testing of teenagers for steroids so that his cousin can clean up on the testing contract? Did he get a bond bill passed by his constituents to build more freeways, then turn them into toll roads (basically using bond money from the people to build a road then charging them to drive on a road they built with their own money)... and sell the management of the toll roads to some company in Germany (three way kickbacks ... the construction company that built the road, the loan company that the handled the funding, and the German company all toss him a bone in some underhanded yet legal way)?

We like to get worked up over REAL issues these days, not who he diddled on his personal time. Have you got any of that on him? Real dirt is fun to bitch about, but liberals whining about how he got his shmeckle smoked is just not good press.

Nope. But DAVID VITTER DID.

If you want to enforce this standard on one then you should enforce this standard on all.

How about expecting David Vitter to enforce his own standard for others on himself?

I have absolutely no problem with that.

I could go into his role in the Abramoff scandal. But let's just leave it at this. . .the man himself said that infidelity was grounds for resignation. His words. He made that statement publicly. His moral standard.

Now you are saying that no one cares if the man's own claim to moral righteousness

We like to get worked up over REAL issues these days, not who he diddled on his personal time. Have you got any of that on him? Real dirt is fun to bitch about, but liberals whining about how he got his shmeckle smoked is just not good press.

Well of course - because public deception isn't a real issue. He ran his mouth over and over again about morality while he was porkin' away on his wife - and breaking the law at the same time. Then he kept his mouth shut about it all for years.

He said that someone in public office who committed infidelity should resign. His own moral declaration. His own demand of others. While he covered up doing it himself.

I just wanna make real sure here that neo-conservatives have now clearly abandoned any pretense of morality.

well i'd consider myself a conservative. and ill not abandon the importance of morality when it comes to government or life. and ill continue to vote for those individuals who run on a platform that most represents my values. and seeing as i wont personally check the background of every one i vote for i guess thats just the risk ill have to take voting my concience with the information available.

ahh...well, it's nice to see you've eliminated yourself from any future "moral" posturing for the GOP...:D

Let's rinse again and repeat. David Vitter admits he solicited from an escort service and likely committed infidelity. He claimed that public officials engaging in infidelity should resign. He not only never resigned, he ran for the Senate bleating the same tune while pretending he never did anything.

Should he resign?

Please tell me you, you realize no one gives a shit?

So just what part of your "values" would support a man who claimed that infidelity was grounds for resignation of public office - while covering up his own and running for office anyway? And how is running on that platform representing your values if his own behavior was exactly the opposite of what he claimed he was representing to you?

he isnt my representative and i didnt vote for him. i could give a damn. that should be up to the people he represents. but yeah id prefer not to see him in office re-elected. If what he did is pre-election and he and his wife have got it taken care of then i would have no problems with him staying in office if he was my representative

Please tell me you, you realize no one gives a shit?

Dude - you are Canadian. Aren't you still subject to the Queen? Or has Harper already replaced her with himself. . .:D

Of course no one gives a shit if a Republican publicly proclaims that marital infidelity is cause for a public official to resign from office - unless its his own.
I'd say that's one core reason why the U.S. is in such sorry shape. Even the moral values proponents don't have any morals.

And then we support them by sayin' we don't give a shit. :D

Every fucking politician is morally fucked up. That is what you fail to realize. There is no party line with politicians, they are all fuck chops.

That's interesting from a very important standpoint. He's a man who originally replaced another congressman who resigned for marital infidelity. And he opened his mouth and proclaimed then that anyone committing infidelity should resign from public office. . .pointing, as every good conservative Republican did at the time. . .at Clinton.

He didn't talk about how infidelity among those holding public office should be handled between a man and his wife. . .he said it should make someone resign from that office. He committed the same offense, knowingly and willfully covering it up and ran for the Senate.

Now this wouldn't be much of an issue if the dude had shut his mouth about such things in the first place. But he didn't. If he had any moral values, his sorry ass would resign, just as he said public officials committing such a moral offense should do.

It shouldn't matter if you and I and everyone else thinks it should just be handled between him and his wife - HE claimed he didn't think that - until it was about him.

Yep. . .but the smart ones don't run around proclaiming that anyone in public office committing infidelity should resign. This bozo did.

did he commit the act while in office? covered it up? his wife knows, how is that a cover up? other than that, i see no reason to broadcast it. if what he did was before he held office then no he need not resign. its just retards blowing up about stupid stuff. the difference between what he said and did is he said someone commiting infedility while in office and him taking care of it before he held office is different in my book.

Well, then this one was apparently dumber than most, cuz he cried about the moral issue of infidelity all the way to the U.S. Senate.

dumb or :nerd:

Yep. . .and now there are new allegations that he carried on another, 11-month affair with a hooka in New Orleans. He was a state representative and then a congressman. He dropped out of a race running for governor while tending to marriage counseling - which might have been after an infidelity incident - but held office before seeking that position. He went to Congress after the one he replaced had covered up - you guessed it - infidelity. That's when Vitter opened his own sorry mouth and bleated.

The phone number appeared on published records from an escort agency in Washington, D.C.

The dude had a long time to clear it up to the public. But he didn't, of course - until the D.C. Madam's phone records were published.

He didn't tell his wife while he was doing it. And in a 2000 interview, his wife said she'd be more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary Clinton if she caught his ass playin' around. . .:D

clear it up to the public? i think there is a fine line on what needs to be disclosed to the public. i dont think he is under any obligation to speak on this subject until it is brought up with evidence in public. then if he says yea it happened and this is between me and my wife, then thats enough for me
