I dont remember EVER hearing about a piece of software being so horrible until Vista came out. Ever.
Wow.. It's not nearly as bad as you make it sound. I dunno.. lot of hatin' going on that seems misplaced.

You never experienced Windows NT then.Crashes are the worst bugs a computer can have. One is too many.

I have not had Vista crash yet on either my laptop or desktop.![]()
So...you haven't turned them on yet?

I spent the weekend doing a complete migration of all data and programs from my old XP machine to my new Vista machine, not a single problem except for one program I use that has not been made "Vista compatible" yet, I got around that pretty easily by installing Windows Virtual PC, and loading up XP in it, works perfect.
Side note: both my new laptop and desktop came with Vista pre-loaded, so this may have something to do with not having any issues or crashes, whereas an older machine that was "made for XP" may not be 100% compatible with Vista, i.e. device drivers.
I am running both of them on only 1gig of RAM and they run very fast, I did switch them both to "performance mode" so they basically look and act like XP.
I should note that these crashes are always preceded by system backups and then after restarting, recovery programs will pop up. I find this to be a great improvement over XP crashing where you would still lose a lot of your work. I haven't had any freeze ups with Vista so far (which seemed to be common on XP).Crashes are the worst bugs a computer can have. One is too many.
Not possible. XP hasn't been out that long. You said you've had your pc for 6-7 yearsIve had XP the whole time Ive had my Dell and I dont remember any time it crashed. Programs have crashed and Windows saves me from them...but Windows itself crashing? Uh uh.
I lost my damn reply.Yeah thats about right.![]()
I never had problems with XP pre-sp1, not anywhere near the Win 98SE blowups, but about as common as NT4. And Win 95 how did we put up with that shit? A guy at work brought in his laptop running 95 so I could fix something for him. I couldn't stop laughing at how pathetic that thing was.I just find that really hard to believe. Pre-SP1, XP sucked ass and it had more problems than I recall any Client OS ever having.
Vista was built on TOP of XP, it was not built from the ground up. So if you don't think it sucks you know nothing about computers.

As much as I love the industry I'm in there are too many people who think they know everything in it.
I think it sucks. I'm not an IT pro or a programmer, but I'm not in the "you know nothing about computers" category either. Maybe ... just MAYBE ... vista doesn't work for what I need an OS to do. I'd also like to see what you use as a basis for your statement that vista was built on xp. If it was then so many of the programs that ran on xp but are screwed on vista would actually run. Even a bunch of microsux own software will not run on the vista OS.Vista was built on TOP of XP, it was not built from the ground up. So if you don't think it sucks you know nothing about computers.
